Lyrics

I'm In Love With The Waitress

Written By: Pete Smith

I'm sure there are worse ways of spending the day
Than renting a seat at the old men's cafe
For the price of a sandwich and coffee, the refills come free
I'm in love with the waitress, she's not in love with me

The TV is muted and rolling the news
For a twelve hour shift in the same pair of shoes
With a tick of her fabulous smile and a flick of her hair
I'm in love with the waitress, she hardly knows I'm there

Watching her work, I'm lost in silent admiration
No surprise she always gets it right
She serves communion to her silent congregation
Part of me stays kneeling as I step out in the night

She's working through college, she's raising three kids
She's feeding a habit, her life's on the skids
I've heard so many stories, a couple might even be true
I'm in love with the waitress, the old men all love her too

Life is a puzzle with too many pieces missing
No surprise it never comes out right
Don't want to be just one more old man reminiscing
But part of me stays seated as I stand and say goodnight

I'm in love with the waitress but I'll never say
I'll never tell her, its better that way
Just loving someone is not such a bad place to be
I'll keep it my secret, things will be fine
She's got enough problems, she doesn't need mine
Just loving someone is not such a bad place to be
I'm in love with the waitress, she's not in love with me
