"Show Review – Phantom Atlantic in Toronto, ON"

Who: Phantom Atlantic
When: December 7, 2018
Where: Radio, Toronto ON

As we walked into Radio, I wasn’t sure what to expect; I had never been here before but I was so excited to see what was in store. Once we walked down the stairs and turned the corner I couldn’t believe what a hidden gem Radio actually was. WE saw people gathering in the open area in front of the stage anxiously awaiting for Phantom Atlantic to take their place on the stage.

Once the crew and band came out to start testing out their sound, setting up some last minute things before the were prepared to blow the crowd away. Phantom Atlantic took the stage and when the first drum was hit you knew you were in for an amazing show. The band kept their entire set high energy and in a venue like Radio everyone was dancing to the music. The band’s high energy was felt throughout the crowd, known for loving every minute on stage you can tell from their set that Phantom Atlantic was born for this.

If you have a chance to see Phantom Atlantic play, I urge you to go see them. While watching them, you can see the passion behind each song; when they played their new single “Beneath Your Moment” was one of their standout moments of their set. They made sure that every attendee understood the intensity and the devotion they have to each song and to each one of their fans. - Canadian Beats

"Phantom Atlantic Say Farewell To 2018 In Festive Style"

It was the night of the media launch for this year's Indie Week in mid October at venue Hideout when I first discovered alternative/rock Toronto band Phantom Atlantic. A short 15 minute set showcased a selection of some of the band's hard hitting rhythmic songs which helped highlight them, as a band to remember from the night and to catch at one of their last shows of 2018. My contribution to the festival as a volunteer in the role of Stage Assistant meant being able to meet the four talented and friendly guys before they hit the stage and made their impression.

Fast forward to the band's last show of the year at the newly renamed Radio, formerly Adelaide Hall, where the band are presenting the release of new single 'Beneath Your Moment' to a lively crowd on a bitterly cold Friday night. The stage lights go off in front of a buzzing crowd that fill the majority of the room and the best opening music you could possibly choose to fit the season and add hype to the anticipation plays, the dramatic choir of 'Carol of The Bells' rings out across the venue. First song of the night reminisces the riff of One By One from one of their biggest musical influences Foo Fighters, on a song that pumps and chugs to a strong rhythm all the way through. Songs that follow have elements of other stadium rock bands Kings of Leon with epic sounding guitars and Coldplay when things become more melodic with Ryan supplying keys. Moments of guitar shredding heighten energy during the set and on-stage banter throughout shows chemistry that only a band of friends can have. A variety of different set ups and lighting during the show also manages to keep the audience entertained by every change, as Phantom Atlantic display awareness for the importance of the visual when showcasing their music on stage.

Halfway through the set is when Phantom Atlantic drop new single, 'Beneath Your Moment'. There is the musical amalgamation of a pulse set by Ken on drums and Jeff on bass, complimented by Kyle's calling vocals surrounding the venue along with crashing symbols and striking guitars. This song is one of the slower tempo songs in their set and has a relaxed mood. Song tempo is another thing the band enjoy altering during the set, while the majority of songs do tend to be in the vein of garage rock stompers with thundering type drums and intricate guitar play. The penultimate song of the night is previous single 'Lessons' which is obviously their crowning moment. Kyle's vocals soar to a sound that can often be found in some of the most popular modern rock bands. 'Lessons' is a stadium rock anthem and as it comes to a climatic finish the crowd have been conquered. Loud cheers from their strong following beg the band to return one last time. The band answer with another festive surprise as they return to the stage and we're treated to a couldn't-be-more-lively performance of Mariah Carey's hit 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'. Madness ensues with support band Man Crush loving their moment on backing vocals in the middle of the stage. The audience are fully involved, dancing and enjoying this singalong moment to arguably the most popular Christmas song ever made. The festive hit tops the night perfectly.

Despite only having formed in 2017, Phantom Atlantic have a tight, well crafted sound that make them an unmissable band to see live. Be sure to catch a Phantom Atlantic show in the new year when the band return to prove their place within a busy Toronto music scene. In the meantime, enjoy new single Beneath Your Moment here. - New Music Upfront

"Phantom Atlantic (12/1/2017)"

For those of you who don't know about Phantom Atlantic, they are an alternative indie rock band from Toronto! They have recently released a self titled EP over the past summer and played a show last night at Rivoli to show off their new tunes.

After listening to their EP, I was super excited to see this band live not only because they have a great sound, but also because they're local and those are my favourite types of bands. Seeing their set last night exceeded my expectations and I became an instant fan! The emotion they put in their music could be felt by the whole audience, who was dancing and singing along to every song (I might have been dancing as well, just don't tell anyone). I will definitely being seeing Phantom Atlantic in the near future, or whenever they have their next show in Toronto. They are playing a show on December 8th in Ottawa if anyone will in the area.

Since hitting the music scene in 2017, Toronto-based Phantom Atlantic have been making waves. Blending the post-rock ambience of artists like Radiohead and Explosions in the Sky with driving alt-rock rhythms reminiscent of Foo Fighters and Thrice, the band’s unique fusion of high energy anthems and serene soundscapes has quickly earned them a reputation as “one to watch” (Indie Week).

Members Kyle Brunet, Ryan Stam, Jeff Burling and Ken Grisé have also been lauded for their engaging and authentic live show, and their appetite for being on stage is insatiable. The past year alone has seen them pack up the van for their first summer tour, appear at festivals Canadian Music Week and Indie Week, and provide direct support for notable acts including Wang Chung, Cutting Crew, and multi-platinum Irish arena rockers The Coronas.

Released in summer 2018, Phantom Atlantic’s first single “Lessons” – the follow-up to their self-titled and self-produced 2017 debut EP – received airplay on active rock radio stations across the country. It also garnered support from Toronto radio icon Alan Cross and was featured on Spotify’s official “Ready to Rock” playlist. Their second single, "Beneath Your Moment," is available now on all digital streaming services.
