Bio

Pharaohs formed in late December 2008 when two guys from Tunbridge Wells, Kent, who were previously in a highly rated underground band called HPR (Small Town Records), decided they wanted a more catchy sound with a change of vocalist. Jonny and Rob teamed up with Inigo and Joe, who previously had played together in other local bands and started jamming out musical ideas with plans to tour as far and wide as possible with their fresh sound.

Pharaohs’ music is best described as Math Pop Rock. They use ultra-melodic vocals with big pop choruses and detonating breaks but mix them with ‘techy riffs’ and cleverly constructed instrumental structures producing a sound similar to Foals, Minus the Bear, Bloc Party and the Police.??

Early 2009 was spent recording their debut album, and after All Aboard Records signed them up a 2 track download only single of ‘Squashed Against My Wall’ was a precursor to the 7 track EP ‘We’ve Tried Nothing And We’re All Out Of Ideas’ released in the UK in Nov 2009 and in Dec 2009 by French Label Hiphiphip in Europe. ??

The single received some impressive radio and press coverage, being BBC 6 music’s Steve Lamacq unsigned track of the week, BBC Radio Kent’s band of the week and gaining a special feature in Rock Sound Magazine in their ‘Great New Bands Column’. The track was played on radio stations in Italy, France and Belgium also and the accompanying video featured on ‘No life’ TV in France as well as some interviews with the band. Another of their tracks ‘Columbus’ has been BBC Radio Kent’s hottest record. The EP itself received a series of brilliant reviews in both the UK and all across Europe.

The band have always kept themselves busy with several UK tours and shows playing alongside many bands including Glassjaw, Young Guns, The Subways, Canterbury, King Blues, Lights Go Blue and Shapes to name but a few. They’ve played several well-known London venues such as Punk, The Old Blue Last, Macbeth and on a Thames River Boat as well as a few festivals like Rapturefest and Hevy Fest, and various venues up and down the country. In February 2010 they made their debut European appearance in Lille, France for the launch of their album with the French label Hiphiphip and then in July 2010 toured Europe with shows in both France and Belgium. When Pharaohs aren’t playing, they are either recording or writing. With plans for a full length later in 2011 or in early 2012, the band is already writing new material.

They are about to release a new single 'Photosynthesis' in February for free download from the new, second EP, 'Photosynthesis' to follow in April 2011. This will be released in Europe, with the same label Hiphiphip, and Japan. In the UK the band have decided to release it themselves giving them complete control giving out free downloads, music videos and more.

They have a Tour booked in Europe from the 2nd - 9th April where they will be supporting Battles in Luxembourg along with headline shows of there own in Germany and France, and they plan to go out to Japan and China later in the year. The rest of the year will see Pharaohs promoting their new 8 track ‘Photosynthesis’ with a series of video’s, live dates and downloads. They plan to then record the follow up around December 2011.
