"Sizzla & Hartman in concert"

For Immediate Release

Reggae Legend Sizzla Kolanji comes to Brantford for once in a lifetime concert

Brantford (March 12, 2006)- This is Southwest Ontario’s chance to hear a living legend. Sizzla Kolanji, The Voice, The Music, The Legend will be appearing live in concert on Sunday March 19th at The Pourhouse Nightclub in Brantford. Opening for Sizzla is Brantford’s own reggae superstar Hartman. Hartman is one-third of the Brantford hip-hop group Pharaoh’s Army, which includes former Canadian Idol Semi-finalist Rose of Sharon and Sonny Burrowz.
Sizzla will be performing a 2hour set accompanied by his full band. Special guest appearances by Blessed & Sample King. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, Pourhouse Nightclub or Protique Clothing.
New York- International reggae superstar Sizzla, one of Jamaica's most gifted, most prolific, and best-loved artists of the past decade, has signed with the Damon Dash Music Group (DDMG). Sizzla has over 30 full-length albums released for labels like VP Records, Greensleeves, and Jet Star- countless 7-inch singles released in his native Jamaica - including last summer's crossover smash "Just One Of Those Days (Dry Cry)". And now, his forthcoming DDMG release, set for an early-2006 release, will mark Sizzla's major-label debut.
Something of an enigma to the public at large, Sizzla has rarely granted interviews and has kept his concert appearances to a minimum. All of that, Dash insists, is about to change.
"The signing of Sizzla to the Damon Dash Music Group is actually a perfect fit," explains Dash. "I am an entrepreneur: when I see a market I haven't yet infiltrated, I'm going after it. Reggae and Caribbean music is a huge international marketplace and, of course, I like the scope of that. Sizzla is unquestionably the genre's biggest, most talented, most prolific, most important star. I'm looking forward to reaching Sizzla's already massive fanbase, and more importantly, exposing him to a brand new one. I'm proud and excited to have Sizzla as a new addition to the DDMG family." "Rose of Sharon hosts open-mic night"

Brantford, Ontario finally has the creative outlet everyone's been waiting for. Open Mic Night at Downtown Java, 88 Colborne St., is held every other Friday and is open to anyone and everyone. Sharon Vanden Enden and Ron McGrath are the geniuses behind this great idea. Sharon is one third of the group, Pharaoh's Army, which in the past, has opened for Fabolous and in the future will be opening for such acts as Massari and G-Unit. Pharaohs Army's first album will be out soon.
The Open Mic Nights are geared towards students who may be looking for an alternative to spending their Friday nights in a bar or are not of age to drink and also students who would just rather not consume alcohol. Instead, students can attend and also take part in Open Mic Night. Sharon's only rule is: "Everything must be kept clean." In other words content that does not contain cursing

Sharon was quick to add that since Laurier [University] has come to Brantford: "It is the city's responsibility to house the students and their interest and have more then just the Pourhouse." Sharon wants Java and this event to be seen as a safe place for students and believes that Brantford does not have enough locations that are alcohol free and students can enjoy.

"Kids need a safe place like this because parents don't want to hear bad things from their kids about their university experience"

Rose of Sharon has used her artistic license to create a self-empowering mantra that embellishes on the L’Oreal Paris slogan, “Because you’re worth it”. The song entitled “Worth It”, was written by Rose of Sharon and composed by Arhon Grier. Although, its first two verses are written and performed in the first person, Rose of Sharon represents herself as a symbolical reference for all women. The musical composition is modernly urban with hard bass line build-ups throughout a dizzying percussion line. The chorus is a mix of linguistic form jockeying between the first and second person. The crescendo comes during a stirring bridge that builds with a bass line climb as Rose of Sharon brings the message full circle. With her vocal skills now on full display, the linguistic form is switched to the inclusive message, “We Are Worth It”, directed at all women.
MAMA by Pharaoh's Army 3:30 (airplay: 91.5 CKBT FM, 88.3 CJIQ FM)
written by: S. Vanden Enden, N. Boswell
composed by: A. Grier

Rose of Sharon conceptualized this track as an ode to those that put money before everything else. She does this by asking the question, " Is Your Mama Proud of You". This chorus (hook) is the driving force behind the track, while the verses present examples of relative life situations. To add depth to the track Rose of Sharon sings the verses in a low pitch displaying her vast octave range. Group mate Sonny Burrowz adds a little urban flow with one of his patented lyrical rhymes, while Hartman rips the remix version reggae style. The music is married to the lyrics and helps to keep the chorus alive in your memory. The composition uses a stirring drum line accompanied with congas to carry the beat. Add in a few dirty chords and this track keeps you bouncing every time.
The messengers, Rose of Sharon, Hart Man and Sonny Burrowz use an urban flow with hip-hop and reggae riffs to give this album the power of speech it needs to convey its meaning. The politically charged lyrics are contagious and carry the albums rhythm throughout.

Some songs speak, through parody; of the growing number of people who believe our social/political landscape is corrupt and broken. The album was shaped as a reflection on life and those things that affect us. Bob Marley coined the phrase “Rebel Music”; Pharaoh’s Army has added a distinct Canadian flavor to this moniker.

For former Canadian Idol semi-finalist, Rose of Sharon, it was at this early age she learned that “charity is an essential part of humanity”. Her songwriting exemplifies her concern for the ideals that permeate our youth. Her lyrics speak to all generations as she uses her vocal prowess to effect social change.

Hart Man has been influenced by the music of the islands. He uses his powerful vocals as a tool to teach the young, and spreads a message of love because "a good friend is better than money". Bob Marley runs through Hart Man’s veins as an
inspiration and guiding spirit.

After a run in with the judicial system as a youth, Sonny quickly learned a lesson he wouldn’t soon forget. Hard work, determination and the hope of providing a better life for his family, have driven Sonny to succeed. Sonny has been busy in the lab with the daunting task of producing, not only his debut album, but also co-producing tracks for Pharaoh artists Digi, Hart Man and Rose of Sharon.
