Romar Dominique Bennett (born April 18, 1985), better known by his stage name Pharo Starr is an American recording artist, dancer, writer, music producer, and music engineer with his indie label Cool House Entertainment.
Pharo was born in Milwaukee, WI but constantly moved from place to place due to his father being in the military. Living in Europe for ten years of his life, Pharo grew to understand the beauty and importance of art not just as a past-time but as a vocal expression and a means of emotional therapy.
Starr first gained his recognition by winning talent shows and dance battles at a young age. Pharo says "I can remember back in the day watching Michael Jackson Moonwalker and teaching myself how to glide across the floor like MJ. Dance is something i just do, its like walking". Pharo later began ghostwriting and making beats for other local artist until he focused on producing younger sister, Shavieair "The Dame" Bennett, after sensing the potential she had to be a great femcee.
Starr didn't get into the engineering side of music until 2004 after a devastating meeting with a local radio personality. He said regarding the experience:
"I will never forget that day. We went to this local recording studio, which was mostly for bluegrass music, knocked out the demo and went straight to the radio so excited about what we just did. Then we were massacred! The radio jockey started talking about the sound being wrong, what's the difference between this and digital sound, how we were cheated out of money. On and On he went and I remember watching my sister (The Dame) hold back tears. To add fuel to the fire he brought in a label exec from the newly formed Koch to stomp us even more. All i could think was I am coming back and I'm engineering my own stuff from now on. This will never happen to me again."
Since then Pharo has engineered countless mixtapes, and demos not for just him but for other artist as well.
Pharo Starr is a force to be reckoned with. There are many talents out there but you will rarely find an artist with so much well roundedness combined with such an insight to know how to deliver it. From his midwest styled emceeing to his R&B like dance moves. He is a perfectionist. A poet. An artist. An artist with a hunger to be the best and show the world his story.
