"Phat Tater: Rock Finalist Song of the Year"





Central Florida native Chuck Bigras (Phat Tater) recently received the honor of being named Finalist by the Song of the Year ( http://www.songoftheyear.com/ ) songwriting contest. Song of the Year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. The Song of the Year judges are some of the biggest names in music including many Grammy Award winners.

Song of the Year is excited to recognize Chuck Bigras for his exceptional songwriting ability for the song “Falling Down”. Chuck competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. When asked what inspired the song Chuck commented that “There is music in all of us that describe how we feel. When I did “Falling Down” my emotions were on the edge, and wanted people to know how I felt/ So I made a mainstream song with heavy/angery overtones

Currently Chuck is concentrating on New Music, Promoting/Airplay/Press and live sanario of Phat Tater : Unsocial while hoping to Find a good home for his music, get it out to everyone, everywhere he can.

"Unsocial March 2004"




You know that single Going Under from Evanescence where there is that brief introduction of nu-metal rap. Well, I always thought that bit was really good. The bad news is that Evanescence only ever did that on one song. On a similar theme (but very different music) we have Phat Tater who mix alt-rock with some good old hardcore shouting and banging. There are probably five great songs on this CD and the others are pretty good as well.

It sounds like there are two band members with different musical tastes who are battling to merge their two visions (like Lou Reed and John Cale did). It's when these two styles are fused that things get really interesting. The softer side is guitar-based alternative rock with a melodic element and a suggestion of sadness and wistfulness: the harder side is really heavy guitar and a growling, insistent, argumentative vocal. The interplay of these two elements is just so exciting and gripping. Then you find out it's all the creation of just one man: Chuck Bigras - split personality? manic? maybe, but it's great to listen to.

Comments: This is a superb and powerful song, so I have only recommendations to offer. Add some volume to the vocals during the chorus. Also, there are distinct breaks in between the guitar riffs in the prechorus that could use some kind of fill, such as a guitar lead played in harmonics. Just some suggestions to an already wonderfully engineered piece!

Comments: This song is hugely marketable and should be an easy sell. You are very cutting edge and the only thing I would say is market this song diligently, as you are pushing a sound that is already establishing itself on the airwaves, so competition will be fierce!

Phat Tater is mesmerizing, his music draws you in and keeps you there.
This music has so many levels, which is what sets it apart from many others. On one level is some of the most flowing expressive vocals you ever heard, lovely evough to stir those deep emotions you have put back for special occasions. On a whole other level is some growling, rage evoking hard-core vocals that drive the point home, all combined with superb instrumentation makes Unsocial a bitter sweet work of excellence.
Suspense building music..in each song, keeps you on the edge while you listen, the emotion and sometimes rage builds, all released by the middle of the song, rocking you to the end.
While Unsocial may not be like every CD that you have in your collection, it opens the door to a new original style that proves there is still amazing talent out there that has something new to bring to the CD player. Phat Tater can be beautifully expressive and harsh, in your face at the same time. Phat Tater has enough talent for two bands! Each song on Unsocial is different. There is no redundancy or filler on this CD, just great music.

For a new era of music, comes a new style of music. Mainstream songs, with underground overtones. For 15 years the Phat Tater has been creating music, always growing and adapting to the “Up to date, original sound”. Writing well over 500 songs, the Phat Tater has an arsenal of music at their disposal.
In later 2003 Chuck Bigras went to New Jersey and cut his first solo cd, Phat Tater : Unsocial. Recorded in just 7 day's the 10 song cd has been getting alot of great feedback. After working on alot of submissions and promotion, the Phat Tater is ready to start to get a live act.
Now merged with old friends Jon Wells (Fleshy Headed Mutants, Godflesh) on drums and brother Joe Wells ( Left, Godface) on guitar,and Kerry Starr on bass. Phat Tater will be developing new songs and is now ripping up live shows.

Still to this day the Phat Tater is hard at work with creating new songs, always improving on their writing, singing, guitar, bass, and drum playing. Trying to find a home for their music, and get it out to the world is what Phat Tater's dreams are. It’s what they love to do, and what they will always to till the end.
