"The Source Magazine Presents Phero (S.I.H.H.N)"

Eric “Phero” Lopez is fresh like yo mama’s lemonade on a hot summer day- with creative rhyme schemes, abstract lyrics and unforgettable whit punch lines sounding the alarms of a new day in hip-hop music. Why? Because Phero is unparallel to mainstream and takes it back to vinyl samples, influences from Nas, Mos Def, & the Fugees combined with the musical roots he found growing up in a family of musicians and the frequent jam sessions he had with his pops and uncles in the kitchen. Therefore it was no wonder when Phero found himself in the neighborhood parks battling and spittin’ freestyle cyphers, performing at open mics and eventually sharing the stage with pioneer artists such as Dead Prez, Vast Aire, & Qwel. Phero would have it no other way but to speakthrough-with-from: music.

Phero is a Mexican and Salvadorian hybrid, born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, bringing the hustle to the hustler. When asked to describe the variety of flavors used in his mix of hip hop sound--- latin, urban, jazz, 80’s roots, 90’s flow, 00’s style, 10’s thought--- were the answer. Hence, it was no surprise when Itzamna, president of Immaculate Entertainment, discovered Phero in 2008 and immediately signed him. Within a year, their partnership led to the release of his debut EP, The Fallen Moon and his first full-length album, The Rise which is rhyme schemes over heavily influenced vinyl Jazz samples with a perfect blend of Hip Hop that is out with global distribution. Phero has made appearances at many of Chicago’s esteemed nightspots such as: The Chicago Theater, The Dark Room, Reggies Rock Club, Subterranean, Funky Buddah Lounge, The Bassment,, U.S Beer Company, Metronome Festival, Dueces Wild Tour & the Hip Hop for Gaza Event as well as toured several Midwest Universities.

Phero is a selected feature by The Source Magazine’s Unsigned Hype and recently gained sponsorship by the clothing label Ethnikroots. Phero is releasing his Plan B Mixtape on November 12th, 2010 and the release party will be poppin’ at Red Kiva on November 19th, 2010.
