Phil Dunavan

i've always played music, but never really been that good at it, technically speaking. Until when i was around 17, and for graduation, my parents bought me a really nice classic stratocaster- all white. I played piano most of my life growing up, but never had the "chops" of some of my peers, but good enough to get the occasional pat on the head. But with this cool guitar, i found a whole other world of portable playing, and of mimicking my favorite artists late at night & their songs on my headphones over & over- like many aspiring players. Most importantly, i discovered that i like to and have a knack to write songs. Songs that were both easy enough for me to play & sing, but hopefully as interesting & easy to understand by the audience as the music & songs that I love- that of Stevie Wonder, The Police, Motown, Lennon & the Beatles, etc.etc. My guitar playing consistently got better, and with technology, I can create an entire full band sound for the songs that I whittle out alone in a room somewhere. Crowds usually respond favorably, and like many songwriters, I'm always seeking to try & improve, and further simplify my writing. Say everything, with as few words or notes as possible (!!)
