Philippe Menard

BandBlues

blues rock one man band (living in France).own songs and music from early blues to late 60s/70S blues rock

Biography

After 17 years spent on the road with his blues rock trio Tequila, Philippe Menard, lead guitar and singer of the band, felt that it was time for him to go and start a new musical experience .

So, he decided to play alone, as a One Man Band, using guitar, harp, bass drum, snare, tambourine, hi-hat and cymbal altogether.

Ever since his first album “Hungry Dog”, in 1995, Philippe invites us to share his own vision of the Blues, respectful to all the precursors of the one man band style (such as Dr Isaiah Ross, Jesse Fuller, ….), but also faithful to the spirit of his own 60ties/70ties background and to his heroes (Rory Gallagher, George Thorogood, Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix,….).

While alternating covers and his own songs during his shows, Philippe plays and sings with overflowing energy and an amazing sincerity which won’t let you feel unconcerned . Simply get the groove, and…..boogie on !!!

CD I want an AC Cobra (11 Songs)

Written By: Philippe Menard

11 SONGS IN ENGLISH (AND TRANSLATED IN FRENCH)

01 Patriotism

Walkin’ down the alley cutting through the white field
Made of thousands of little crosses.
Thinking ‘bout the reasons for so much losses,
Was it really worth the deal ?

Ever since the birth of civilisation,
It’s a game of slaves and bosses .
Some walking barefoot, some riding horses,
Hoping for a change, that’s pure fiction.

Oh, but the masters, they’ve found a way,
To make the people die for their power.
Oh, but the masters, they’ve found a way
It’s that awful feeling they call “Patriotism”.

Owners of the plants where are made the guns,
They need to sell all of their stock .
One or two lies on the air for the flock,
Soon a war is declared, ain’t that fun !

Oh, but the masters, they’ve found a way,
To make the people die for their power.
Oh, but the masters, they’ve found a way,
It’s that awful feeling they call “Patriotism”.

Tell me, mother, what did you gain,
When they sent your son back in a bodybag ?
Tell me, mother, you crying in vain,
Are you still eager to show them your “Patriotism”?

Now, people, listen to what I say :
There’s never been an ideal worth dyin’ for .
Now, people, listen to what I say :
It’s time to shout at their faces
We fuck “Patriotism”!!!

01 Patriotisme

Dis moi, la mère, qu’as tu gagné,

02 But !

Jimmy lived in a little farm, deep down in the valley,
With his sweet kind hearted woman, and three nice little kiddies.
Though country life’s got some charms, he felt fed up one day,
Left his sweet kind hearted woman, and three nice little kiddies.

Bought a ticket, went to the city,
For starting a new life he felt ready……….But !…….

Jimmy soon discovered, that down here in the city,
As long as you’ve got some cash, everyone’s your buddy.
Jimmy couldn’t find no job, life’s tough in the city,
And very soon he ain’t got no cash, and lost all his buddies.

Made up his mind a’goin’ back home,
Ran back to the valley to start it all again…….But !………..

When Jimmy pushed the frontdoor his poor heart broke in two,
Here they were, his wife and kids, but his best friend, too.
Now he felt just like a stranger, didn’t know what to do,
Jimmy’d lost his wife and kids, and his best friend, too !

This story’s just a message that I send to you,
Appreciate what you’ve got, at its own value
Sure you can try by all means to live something new……….
But……………………….
