Bio

Texas’ Rio Grande Valley is not a country-music stronghold, but that didn’t stop Phillip Thomas from falling in love with George Strait, Keith Urban and other country artists right alongside the Tejano and conjunto he grew up hearing in this Tex-Mex border region. R&B and hip-hop also permeated his musical sensibilities, but his new single, “Summer Fun” (released to radio June 4, 2013), lands squarely in Texas country territory.

“It’s about my times in the summer getting together with great friends at the lake or the beach, and having that summer love story,” Thomas says of the track. Loaded with good-time grooves, the sun-kissed vibe of beaches, and of course, the kind of fun that happens once the sun goes down, “Summer Fun” is destined to become the soundtrack of the season.

Thomas sings and plays guitars and banjo on the new single, which he composed. He also co-produced it with A.J. Vallejo, who contributes guitars, bass, drums and harmony. The two began working together when Thomas arrived in Austin three years ago following a stint as a staff songwriter for a top-tier Nashville publishing house. While in Nashville, Thomas recorded his first album, YOU WON’T BE LONELY LONG (2009); its single, “I Don’t Want to Love You Anymore,” reached No. 17 on the Texas Music Chart. In 2011, he recorded the EP, SCARS, with A.J.; it featured the single, “Weather Man.”

“Summer Fun” will appear on Thomas’ upcoming album, slated for fall release.
