"Hotpress Murphy's Live"

" Philtre blend the best of Oasis, Stereophonics and Stone Roses together in a tight focused performance which shows plenty of potential "

Shilpa Gantra
Hotpress - Hotpress

"Cyprus Avenue"

"Philtre put on a great display with lead-singer Tom Leahy mixing strong stage presence with a relaxed and capable performance. I remarked previously that he has a distinctive voice which really sets this band apart. "

"Drop-d Night"

"We were very lucky to have blagged the “Almost Famous” Philtre for a Drop-d gig. Sounding like a diluted Stereophonics with a smidgen’ of The Smashing Pumpkins, Philtre create an edgy self confessed blend of “hard rock with a twist of pop.”

Bio

Irish indie-rock group Philtre formed in 2004. Hailing from Tralee in County Kerry. Consisting of two brothers drummer Junior and guitarist Omar Abdulsalam, lead singer Thomas Leahy and bassist Padraig Dillane. Creating their own distinctive sound centred on melodic riffing, aggressive vocals and addictive choruses.

Their music has been described as infectious alternative rock. Philtre have gone from strength to strength making appearances at the Rose of Tralee festival winning Live at the Rose competition in August 2005, enabling the band to record their debut EP Bullet from nowhere. Constant gigging saw Philtre share the stage with Republic of Loose at the Killarney Summer Fest and also saw them play with The Blizzards, Delorentos, The Coronas and The Flaws.

January 2006 brought the release of debut EP Bullet from nowhere with the headline track being featured on RTEs The Sunday Game and Setanta Sports live coverage of Munster's triumphant Heineken cup campaign. Selected as one of the best six unsigned acts in Ireland to play on the Murphy’s Live 06/07 showcase, with Bullet from nowhere being nominated as one of the hit songs on the Murphy’s Live compilation.

This success garnered a support slot on tour with multi-platinum German act Reamonn.

A headlined Irish tour followed with UK act The Mourning After. Philtre gained a headline spot on the coveted IMRO showcase tour and played to a sell out crowd at the Village for the National Student Music Awards.
