Phirefly

Phirefly is a Vancouver based DJ/Vocalist duo comprised of Ray Black (Sweatshop Union) & Claire Mortifee (The Mothership). Leaving conventional practices and expectations behind, Phirefly is actualizing the evolution of Future-Soul, Hip-Hop and R&Bass music. With a unique live performance configuration, Phirefly offers a new way of celebrating one that you have to experience to understand. Combining undeniably danceable soundwaves with honest and uplifting lyricism, the music of Phirefly has been carefully produced to inspire joy, dance, and the natural progression of its audience.

Playfully reinterpreting the live performance space, Phirefly crafts spicy mashups by fusing live vocals with pulsing, gut-deep beats. Fearlessly remixing the tradition of DJ culture, the pair is taking the wave of dance music thoroughfare into a new dimension. Phirefly is the product of two emerging West Coast artists. Ray Black is a long-time DJ/producer/rapper and member of long-standing Hip-Hop crew Sweatshop Union. His undeniable talents on the turntables and mic complement the intuitive vocalism and raw musicality of powerhouse Claire Mortifee. With 4-piece future-soul band The Mothership in tow, Claire has been hypnotizing us on the local and international scene, ushering in a new era of unapologetic iconoclasm. In the pursuit of authentic expression and celebration ritual, Phirefly is unabashedly actualizing the evolution of music and the interconnected nature of our lives.
