Bio

Mark Adams Allison keeps a busy schedule of remix and producer work yet this has not stop him from releasing three solo records in just over 3 years.
His music can also be found on many compilation CDs with other electronica artist including Moby,Faithless,ATB, Paul Van Dynk and Sasha to name a few. Mark has earned a name in the industry with his signature ambient surreal soundscapes and electronica pieces.

Before his albums, Mark worked as a prominent New York producer and engineer in the underground world of electronica and dance music. Mark has worked with John Cale (Velvet Underground) on projects such as "American Psycho" , and also as drum programmer for his live shows and upcoming albums. In addition, Mark has also worked extensively with producer/engineer Doug DeAngelis on Deep Dish?s "Sandy B" (Arista), Love and Rockets? 1998 release "Lift" (Red Ant), and Ké?s album "Shiny" (RCA). Mark has recently finished mixing music with Natacha Atlas and Kevin Haskins for an upcoming album as well as working with Tricky.

Having established a solid groundwork and understanding of cutting edge music, Mark went forth to record his first solo album. With the release of Of Earth and Sky under the project name The Spirit Level in 1998 (Priority/EMI/Neurodisc Records), his commercially accepted album was immediately welcomed on College and New Age radio stations. Within weeks, Of Earth and Sky reached #12 on the New Age Voice chart, and was at medium and high rotation on over 150 New Age and non-commercial AAA stations. His music is a unique blend of cutting edge music synthesis and traditional Asian vocal chants - a style Mark dubs as "Ethno-ambient." The record is a representation of a synergy of eastern music to western beats, ranging from soft, flowing sounds to catchy, song-oriented rhythms.

With his second project and album, Phobos, (EMI/Neurodisc Records, 1999) Mark Allison explores new combinations of musical styles from different eras and cultures. This album focuses on contemporary female voices, using instrumentation such as sitars, tablas, and breakbeats to underscore the vocals. With this new album, Mark Allison conjures up yet another amalgamation of World Beat, further establishing himself as a skilled artist of ethno-ambient music.

Currently Mark Allison has finished a new electronica CD entitled Star Machine(Universal/Water Music Records), which was released on March 25, 2001. In the meantime, Of Earth and Sky continues to gain recognition through television and media events. The Spirit Level has already been promoted as a hot new artists in the Levi?s Downtown Arts Festival, and Of Earth and Sky has be heard on MTV?s "Real World" as well as Japan?s NHK TV network(Waga Taiyokei).
