Baltimore native Phoebe Jean and her music making counterpart Benjamin Florencio are gracing the turf this weekend at Ottobar. They are a new band formed in early 2008 but already have made a great little stir in Brooklyn and no doubt will do the same here after this weekend.
Phoebe Jean is like a long legged Tina Turner meets Jim Morrison with her sexy yet volatile crooning straight from the gut. She dances and wails and plays instruments too while Benjamin holds it all down on a table stacked with musical noise makers of all variety.
When I saw them in Brooklyn it was only their third show and the crowd was packed with friends and friends of friends who were sweating and getting goosebumps at the same time. Definitely a band to watch. They've got the magic for sure. - BALTIMORE CP

Went to Glasslands last night to catch one of my favorite bands that was to be headlining. I got there early and was pleasantly surprised by an opening act that came out of nowhere and blew the rest of the night away. Phoebe Jean & The Air force is just one girl and one guy but they are as powerful as their name suggests. Phoebe Jean grew up in Baltimore with a white mamma who liked black music. Thank God for that. She brought her baby girl down to all of the African dance groups and left her to be baby sat by the teenage boys with gembe drums strapped around their waists. Needless to say she developed a killer rythmic understanding. Growing up she found inspiration across the board from Bob Dylan to Count Basie and back to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. She is tall with long legs and high heels and dances like a motherfucker. People come to see her because she is real and passionate and feeling the music, its infectious. Benjamin is your classic musical genius. Plays anything, fixes anything, makes everything better. the two of them are a dynamic duo to say the least. Good energy, good looks, good show.
