"D.I.Y. Bushwick Fest, Day 3"

My 2nd night at the DIY Budhwick festival (which was the fest's 3rd overall as Bill covered last night's shows) started out calmly, with Guitars at the Opera House lofts. ...... The beat picked up with Photon Dynamo and the Shiny Pieces (picture under here), an energetic rock trio with strong technique, attractive harmonies and jazz-inspired chords and rhythms. - TheDeliMagazine.com

Bio

Photon Dynamo and the Shiny Pieces formed in 2009 in Brooklyn New York. Musicians, Frank Rathbone (guitar, vocals), John Swanson (drums, vocals) and Gillian Visco (bass, vocals) came together to form a garage rock trio. Their sound strives to be loud and quirky, melodic yet raw, simple and memorable.

The band got their start perfoming in underground venues such as The Market Hotel and the Opera House Lofts in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn. In January of 2010 they released "Oh, What A Way Around", their first full length album containing thirteen songs.

Frank sings lead vocal, and taking influence from his jazz background, he uses chords and scales not often found in the punk or garage rock genre. John sings harmony while rocking out, weaving driving-melodic beats, and often composes songs in odd-meter. Gillian's 3rd harmonies sit hauntingly on top while her bass guitar ranges from a tight lock-in rhythm with the drums, to a floating counter-melody. Lyrically, the content can be as little as a minimalistic two lines (live another life) to a full-length narrative story (the spy song).
