Bio

Phresh Carter was born Jamal Rashad Carter on November 29, 1979 in Houston,Texas. He grew up in 5th Ward, a low-income crime-ridden neighborhood in Houston. His mother introduced him to Hip-Hop at an early age during her stint as manager for the Hardy Boyz. Growing up on Hardy St., Carter was introduced to the drug and gang life early befriending and being mentored by notable gang members and drug dealers at a young age. By the age of 13, he was a ranking member of the Vice Lord street gang. His running with the gang left him in custody of the police as a juvenile. Upon his release he tried to sway himself from the drug game into the rap game by releasing his first mixtape "Throwed Young Playa" under the name of Jayrock. Before leaving the drug game completely he was incarcerated for an extended amount of time in 2008, which lead to him taking his rapping more serious. While incarcerated in Texas State Penitentiary, he became a student of rap, studying his favorite artists such as Curren$y, Pimp C, Ice Cube, & Prodigy of Mobb Deep. Once he was released, Phresh recorded an extensive amount of music with his cousin, though due to a fall out between the two, the music will more than likely never see the light of day. Finally deciding to independently promote, record, and distribute his own music, he founded his own label "1613 Records" with the first relase entitled "The Black Tape" to be released the 4th quarter of 2012. Until then Phresh has been keeping his name relevant doing features for prominent Houston underground rappers such as Mr. Roc and Brian Kidd.
