PICO – these are our own ska-funk-power-fusion-compositions. Elements of reggae, ska, jazz, rock, funk R&B and Portuguese fado blended with African and Caribbean influences with Cuban and Portuguese Chant. Melodic passages, crisp brass riffs, and funky basslines and rocky crossover. Consistently danceable rhythms with Spanish, Portuguese and African influences smashed up with caribbean power of our new vocalist Gelsie Gutierrez Delgado from Havanna.
The international seven-member band – all long-time musicians – was founded in 2004 by Pancho Ballweg (bass), Carsten Ullrich (trumpet) and Heiko Popp (drums), later came the Portuguese singer and guitarist Gabriel Correia and the saxophonist Eva Buck. In February 2012 the trombonist Ludwig Hiller did complete the brass section. Since june 2013 the band is nut only supplemented by the Cuban singer Gelsie Gutierrez Delgado with Cuban influence, the band got a good portion of real Caribbean power. Full force ahead.
