"PIGEON WIGS - SINGLE REVIEW"

Welsh wizards Pigeon Wigs come blazing out of Cardiff with what just might be the strongest debut of the year and certainly one of the videos of the year. 'Near The Knuckle' kicks off with a swagger riff, a loose Madchester inspired beat and a sassy little bass line that get you in the mood for good times. The vocals sit somewhere between Kings of Leon and Black Grape (specifically, there is a different sound to BG than you get with the Happy Mondays) and the vibe is full or roadtrip-to-nowhere potential. Oh, and the video? It's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but in Cardiff with lego. Fear and Lego in Cardiff, then. - Listen With Monger

"STRIKE A LIGHT: CARDIFF ROCK BAND PIGEON WIGS DROP BRILLIANT DEBUT TRACK ‘NEAR THE KNUCKLE’"

After many pesky hold ups and wondering if this moment was ever going to happen, Pigeon Wigs show us that the wait was definitely worth it and bring the world a real knockout of a track with ‘Near the Knuckle‘.

Pigeon Wigs is a tremendously passionate and electrically-charged sounding six-piece indie Rock band who are from Cardiff, Wales.

With a song that sounds like it should be in the next Guy Richie movie – they make a rampaging blend of sonic airwaves that has your thirsty palate guzzling some real juicy gems – as you will be playing this rather loud to wake up those annoying neighbors.

”Formed from the writing partnership of Harry Franklin-Williams & Louis Jugessur, their music ranges from the bombastic and unrelenting to the sombre and fragile, indulging whatever genre best suits their aims while maintaining a through line that one can only describe as Pigeon Wigs.” ~ Pigeon Wigs

‘Near the Knuckle‘ from the easy-to-like long-haired Welsh six-piece indie Rock band Pigeon Wigs, is an outrageous effort that is filled with excellent guitar choruses to make you blush, lyrics that you will relate to, with eloquently expressed vocals that shall get you off your sticky seat. This is all about the aftermath of a breakup, as things spiral like a Tom Brady touchdown, and has you down in the dumps wishing you had just apologized.

Something is certainly brewing in the tea of Cardiff at the moment as the music there seems to be getting all the buzz. Long may it continue.

Hear this epic debut on Spotify and follow their moves on IG. For more fun, be sure to see their very cleverly made music video on YouTube. - Llewelyn Screen, A&R Factory

"Pigeon Wigs – Near The Knuckle"

One day Cardiff’s newest gang, Pigeon Wigs, convinced Jack White, The Rolling Stones and The Black Keys to go for a stroll in Blackweir Woods. When they got to a clearing all five band members pounced on them and forced them into a Fisher Price blender. They slammed down the lid and switched the blender on. Out came their brand new single – Near The Knuckle.

After a year of delays, this loud, outrageous, retro shock-wave of rootsy blues psychedelia is the first taster Pigeon Wigs are providing the outside world of their sound and suffice to say we’re excited. There are riffs, there’s tambourine, there’s an abundance of ooohs, approaching pastiche but cracking out a drum roll before they get there.

With Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and Panic Shack ruffling feathers and now Pigeon Wigs bursting onto the scene, it feels like something’s bubbling up in Cardiff. We’re mega keen to hear what comes next. - Edge of Arcady

Bio

Pigeon Wigs are a 6-piece rock ’n’ roll band newly sprung from Cardiff’s fertile soil. Formed from the writing partnership of Harry Franklin-Williams & Louis Jugessur, their music ranges from the bombastic and unrelenting to the sombre and fragile, indulging whatever genre best suits their aims while maintaining a through line that one can only describe as Pigeon Wigs.

We have only been able to do shows since the opening up of venues but in that time we’ve garnered interest from the industry and audiences alike:

  • Opened Sŵn Festival and were sighted as one of the highlights of Sŵn
  • Made the “Final 22” of Green Man Rising, beating over 3000 other bands
  • Got signed by Clwb Music
  • Released our first single ‘Near the Knuckle’ and the B-side ‘The Way You Do’

Some quotes reviews:

‘All of Jaggers love children combined couldn’t write a better banger than this!!’

‘Near The Knuckle’ exudes a kind of raw attitude that could only be reproduced in physiological terms by a grizzly bear that just learnt how to play power chords.’

"Primal and rather sexual"
