Bio

In 2009, Mikey Resch - having never picked up a musical instrument - received a call from his long-time musician friend and neighbor Chris Wiebe. Chris had just purchased a keyboard and was playing "Intervention" by The Arcade Fire and asked Mikey if he wanted to come learn to play the bass on the song. Chris, a bass player himself, taught Mikey the basics of the song. They quickly asked their guitarist friend, Lance Hickman, to play cover songs with them. Shortly thereafter, Mikey started writing songs and pushing the band away from covers and toward original material. Joe Morais, who had played with Chris during a previous project, joined the band as the drummer.

Pikadons got their name from the Japanese words "Pika" (explosion of light) and "Don" (thunderous sound). The Japanese used the name to describe the atomic bombs from World War II, and reflects a respectful way to remember those events.
