"PILES AND PILES - PREMONITIONS SAY (2013)"

Jesus christmas cracker those are some lush sounding guitars ma'right? Loving the boot staring elements that are sprinkled on this here album as well. Immediate things aside this is some pretty calculated math rock. Piles and Piles do a fine job of not only bringing the instrumental biz but the vocals are honestly a great addition. Tempo's here are medium to slow and thats more than fine..again back to the shoe gazing. Get this clear though these song weren't crafted in zero gravity they all move along at a fair clip and remain interesting. Nice to see something a little left of center getting its due's. - Plenty of Swords

"Piles and Piles - Premonitions Say (2013)"

You guys remember the band shelflife? That Danish band that made a unique blend of math rock with shoegaze and some last.fm dudes entitled "Mathgaze"?
Well, it seems this American band is following the same style as them (which is a great thing). A Math Rock mixed with chaos and distortion of Shoegaze, but they also have clear influences of indie and post-rock in his compositions as well.
Certainly a unique band like shelflife, and hope this is only the first step in the emergence of more bands in this style. Mathgaze has come to stay. - Breaking the Music

"Piles and Piles- Premonitions Say [Download]"

Musically technical, Piles and Piles crafts the sounds that construct your dreams . This trio of alternative/mathrockers from the Boston area, Piles and Piles is a band that have the top notch ability, of creating lengthy tracks without losing the interest of a listener. With tracks that have almost sugary like melodies such as the ones in “Deam” and “Parade”. Accompanied by sharp vocal delivery that’s very much on par with elements of shoegaze. However, I think that it isn’t so mainly due to a production choice and not one that the band is actually moving froward to, at least not in this release. The bass in this release almost backups the playing down by the drummer to the point it’s almost like an audible game of ping pong the way they seem to volley back and forth like in the track “Summer Devon” and “Yellow Phone, Yeah!”. Some excellent guitar playing, along with some sobering but noticeable lyrics. Piles and Piles craft suitable math rock and blend certain aspects of alternative rock to make their distinguish sound stand out amongst the crowd, and you appreciate their ability to do so. - Outskirt Noise

"PILES AND PILES – Premonitions Say"

“Mathgaze”? Is it a thing? Massachusetts band Piles and Piles may not distinguish themselves as it, but that’s really what springs to mind when listening to their latest offering, Premonitions Say. Musically precise riffs with layers of dreamy vocals swell and sway through calculated paths, taking the listener on a worthwhile expedition.

‘Yellow Phone, Yeah!’ is a great example, with drums and a constant open chord giving life to elevated guitars building in the background. Devon Murphy’s vocals move effortlessly from almost whispering in your ear to nearly tearing apart and depositing it happily into space for your listening pleasure.

Piles and Piles deliver a sound that is a hybrid of the riffs from Minus The Bear with jams a la Mr Beast era Mogwai. Walls of noise juxtapose leading basslines and feedback in eight minute songs like ‘You Are Its Source’ with far more delicate tunes like EP closer ‘Parade’, which could be the lovechild of Wild Nothing and Maps & Atlases.

With Premonitions Say up for free download on their Bandcamp, why not take a dive into what Piles and Piles have to offer. It’s certainly something wonderful that suits either sitting alone listening all the way through, or returning from a grand adventure. Actually, even heading out to one, it’s just THAT GOOD. Just remember to secure your ears. - The Ripe
