Virginia Beach hard rockers PILLBUSTER are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of their stoner rock-tinged self-titled full-length album, hitting stores on August 6th via Stonerkill Records. The album was recorded at Osceola Studios in Raleigh, NC with Dick Hodgin (COC, VELVET REVOLVER, LYNYRD SKYNYRD). Check out a teaser below:

“We spent the better part of a year putting our hearts and souls into the writing of this record. After performing it for our fans at several shows, we decided to solidify our project by recording at Dick Hodgin's Osceola Studios in Raleigh, NC,” states Pillbuster guitarist Joe Festa. “Dick understood our sound from the beginning and really worked hard at capturing it. We initially went to him because of his portfolio, but we ended up getting so much more from him. He is as much a part of the sound of this record as any of us.”

Festa adds, “We really put everything we had into this and we hope our fans like it. It’s just straight up in your face and raw, classic metal!”

Pillbuster tracklisting:

‘Dying Next To You’
‘5th Helena Drive’
‘Coincide’
‘Beast’
‘Revery’
‘Rhythm Of Decline’
‘Apology’
‘Resolve’
‘Sinkhole’
‘Push’

Check out the song 'Revery' below:

Pillbuster is set to perform on June 29th at Mugzy’s Grill, located at 1312 E. Pembroke Ave. in Hampton, VA. More information on this show is set to be released soon. The band is currently planning an album release show in August, and also plans to tour in August/September 2013.

"Pillbuster Review"

Stoner rock is on the rise lately. With bands like Clutch and High on Fire growing in popularity, more stoner rock-infused bands surfacing is just inevitable- which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Pillbuster are the latest band to emerge onto the scene and their self-titled debut is set to release this August.
Overall, Pillbuster is a good record. Their musical talent is clear and the gritty vocals add to the faint blues elements the band uses.
If you like bluesy stoner rock, this is the next record for you. The only downside is a lot of the songs sound a lot alike. The positive, though, is that it doesn’t take away from the overall experience of the record.
Pillbuster have put together a decent record here and they can do some great things in support of it if they play their cards right. - The Front Row Report

Pillbuster - Self-Titled – Album Review

When one thinks of Virginia Beach, the first thing that comes to mind is not typically sludge-laden doom rock and vocals that sound like a junkyard dog off its leash. Pillbuster might be an underground sensation now, but there shouldn’t be anything holding them back after cutting their teeth on the road and testing some of their toxic grooves on a live audience. Fans of swamp rock legends and Sabbath worshippers like Down, EyeHateGod or Weedeater have a new safe haven in the hands of Pillbuster.

Pillbuster creates an intoxicating Molotov cocktail of musical ingredients that combine psychedelic seventies hard rock with bruising stoner blues and the brutality of eighties’ punk attitude. From the opening earthquake of “Dying Next to You”, the band charges through the remainder of the album as if they’re wielding their instruments as weapons and carving out grooves made of barbed wire.

“5th Helena Drive” begins with a decimating death march that features guitarist Joe Festa creating himself into the sonic equivalent of a lumbering giant crushing any opposition under the weight of his riffs. Another intriguing aspect of the band is that they can effortlessly change tempo the way a crane switches gears to swing a wrecking ball. The aptly titled “Beast” presents the band crawling through an onslaught of biohazardous bass lines, playing tug-of-war with pounding brass-knuckle drums beats, and offering primal vocals howling at full hilt. Hearing vocalist Brett Lloyd demonically wail “God is made/of the human flesh” while the vicious rhythm section pummel away beneath the soaring lead guitar work is like hearing annihilating audio warfare in your headphones. The head-banging anthem “Revery” is destined to be the soundtrack to metal heads throwing down without mercy, considering it sounds like a monster born in a mosh pit. The closing song “Push” slowly builds to a killer crescendo and becomes a sonic sucker in all of its white-knuckle glory, before the solo scorches through the song like a comet.

The fact that heavy metal is much more reliant on the strength of an album, after unleashing an impressive debut, Pillbuster is blazing a righteous path thus far. Between the brutal breakdowns, trippy tempo-changes and bone-crunching vocals; don’t be surprised to see Pillbuster opening for some household stoner rock names or destroying some afternoon slots on summer festival line-ups this year.

Bio:

“In 2011, 4 people from different parts of the US came together in Virginia to create what would become Pillbuster. Influenced by the deep rooted, swampy sounds of southern metal, east coast hardcore, punk, and straight up rock, this band proves that genres cannot bind.
Each band member brings a different element of influence to the table, helping to create a simple yet complex sound reminiscent of times when music wasn’t over produced and cookie cut for the masses. Pillbuster’s sound is hard, in your face and raw…and that’s how they like it.
Every song has crushing grooves, pounding rhythms with pain ridden vocals and vicious arrangements…inviting the listener to experience the influences and story of the band.
Pillbuster hides from all of the trends, and just plays the music that they want to play…staying true to who they are and what they do is evident in every riff, fill, and growl.”

"Pillbuster-New Band to Burn To"

"Virginia-based band Pillbuster combines raw hard-edge influences with a thick layer of slow Southern sludge. The band has recently obtained the services of a new vocalist to intensify their already swamp-infested sound. Check them out!" - Heavy Planet
