"Music Connection Review"

"A skillfully recorded and engineered EP showcases this Musician’s Institute outfit as a tight musical unit. “Mermaid” alternates between the band’s pop and rock sides. “Run Me Over” could be the group’s best outing, with solid performances all around." - Music Connection Magazine

Bio

Influences: A Perfect Circle, Mars Volta, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Seal, Peter Gabriel....

Backed by one of the most solid bands you will find in LA, the music known simply as 'Pin' ranges from soft, delicate Pop to heavy, thundering rock, rowdy blues and modern intellectual verve. Pin has impressive stage presence, and knows how to work her Asian allure and femme force to consistently deliver the show in addition to the beat. Growing up in a musical family in Taipei, Taiwan, Pin had but one ambition in life...to become a singer. Pin studied the arts as a child, including dance, graphic arts, and music. In September '01, Pin arrived in Los Angeles, California to further her career in music. Attending Musicians Institute, a contemporary, Los Angeles-based music school, Pin is finishing a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in commercial music, set to graduate in December '04. Pin's current EP, a collection of songs penned from her experiences in America is a breath of fresh air in the Los Angeles music scene. A new flavor, a new spice, a new twist on the music of the times, Pin is ahead of the game and exploring new areas of both herself and the music she draws from her life. 'Mermaid', an open exploration of odd meter and odd pespectives, is as fluid as the title would suggest, floating the listener through drippy choruses that break into a fine spray upon the rock-bed below. Pin's incisive, insightful looks into her own mind and heart yield lyrics of impressive bilingual clarity. She speaks images, pictures in sound and moments in time with an Eastern mind and a decidedly American (and Pierced!) tongue. Pin's music is deep and varied, yet easy on the ear. 'Run Me Over' has a sound reminiscent of Alice in Chains, with a modern International edge unique to Pin. At the same time, 'Bloody Eyes and Mind,' an ethereal, haunting piece, hard edged and broken, is fully dynamic--at times softspoken, others lofty and elevated, anguished yet ecstatic. Pin is at once innocent and seductive, demonstrated solidly on 'Spank.' A dialogue of opposites, a glimpse into the chains of love, Spank lulls you in and then won't let go. A taste of Pin's arrangement prowess, 'Keep On Walking' joins a full rhythm section with Pin's own string and horn lines for a fuller, multitextured sound. The choice to add these extra colors provides depth not rarely seen in many of today's undertalented, overproduced Pop artists. Pin is truly a well rounded artist, offering heartfelt, touching and emotionally charged music, professional writing and arranging, and high energy performance. A treat on the ears AND the eyes, Pin is spinning modern pop music in a whole new direction. East meets West in a fusion that is ultimately and uniquely new. GET PINNED.
