Bio
I started Ping Tree in 2005 out of a desire to see my compositions through to recording and performance. Our first CD came out in March of 2006 and included some of the best musicians in Chicago. This version of Ping Tree contains seven members and brings together a great small horn section with electric instruments.
The compositions are straight and to the point. I like simple vehicles for soloists. I write music I wish I could hear when I turn on the radio. Like most of us I listened to a lot of rock, funk and R&B music growing up and I wondered why these sounds never found their way into jazz.
Ping Tree is about connecting with audiences. The word ping is new to English and means communication. Combine this with the tree metaphor and you see what we are about.
If you are looking for a sophisticated and accessible instrumental group for any audience who loves music this is it.
