Bio

While Pinky Gray may have been destined to come together, it was the last thing on anyone’s mind when fate was falling nicely into place – which led to the creation of a new musical collaboration by the founding three members from all over the world.
All life-long musicians - Erwin Herceg from Canada, who fronted bands as long as he can remember before moving from Toronto to Los Angeles following the dream of music; Matt Sherrod, a successful drummer who toured the world with music and also spent many years as a producer, was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA; and Kelly Sherrod (who started this journey as Kelly Steven) a member of a handful of critically acclaimed New Zealand bands.
Matt and Erwin had recorded together for a of couple music projects just for fun after meeting through mutual friends in L.A. a decade earlier. When Matt decided to move to Nashville in 2009, Erwin - who had already moved four years prior - was excited to have a familiar face back in his life.
Before Matt’s decision to move to Nashville, came the much bigger event of finding his true love one night in a semi-seedy bar in Auckland, NZ on tour. He and Kelly decided to get married and Nashville soon came to be their home. Erwin, of course, helped them to get settled into the new city.
It was one random day outside Erwin’s East Nashville house while he was drinking a Bud Light, when Matt and Kelly realized they also enjoyed the odd Bud Light and had the same music sensibilities; so Pinky Gray was formed. It didn’t have a name... it started as a hobby... but, 10 chicken pot pies, 5 rescued cats, 2 dogs and a pot belly pig later, they are ready for the release of their debut LP in spring of 2012.
With influences ranging from Nick Cave and X to Neil Young, to The Band, their sound combines indie and alternative roots with eclectic and melodic vocals.
Pinky Gray also brings together its’ members musical histories; each having shown many levels of success – Matt had performed with Beck, before becoming a member of Crowded House, also having performed with Solomon Burke, Macy Gray and countless others; Kelly - a current member of the New Zealand band Punches, had also been a member of popular indie NZ band Dimmer; Erwin Herceg, invested in the moody, avant garde duo Captain Blackheart, an indie offshoot of the L.A. based Serum, which was wrought thru the record company wringer some years ago.
Pinky Gray is the ultimate collaborative musical result of a raw style, punk-influenced alternative energy, mixing effortless vocal harmonies by Kelly (vocals, bass) and Erwin (vocals, guitar), in front of the beats of Matt (drums, backing vocals). The band's self-titled debut album will be released in spring 2012.
