Bio
Piperlain combines the sounds of acoustic, alternative folk/pop/rock and electronica with emotive, passionate vocals.
Formed by singer/songwriters Benjamin Knight and Rebecca Voorn-Knight, the Piperlain sound has been compared to a contemporary version of The Cranberries and The Corrs with similarities to Sarah Blasko and Josh Pyke.
Originating from The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, influences for Piperlain include Arcade Fire, Tame Impala, Florence and The Machine, The Cranberries, Pink Floyd, Blondie and The Doors. The Piperlain sound has been described as “poetic” and “quirky” by The Grove Studios and “emotive” with “layers of depth” by Sony.
Piperlain released the single “Embrace” in February of 2015. Embrace is about the emotional journey of growing up with a mother with multiple sclerosis and was the first single from the forthcoming concept album entitled “Mother Mourned”; a personal story about the duo's experiences growing up caring for mothers with illness and the emotional journey of working through innocence, despair, grief and release. An animation music video clip was also released and can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grxjI9qnamA
The single “Mother Daughter” is about the emotional journey of growing
up with a mother with mental illness and is the second single from the Mother
Mourned album. Both Embrace and Mother Daughter were recorded at The Grove
Studios, produced with Josh Telford and Paul Iannuzzelli and mastered at
Studios 301 by award winning engineer Steve Smart. Artwork for the Mother
Daughter single was created by Blue Mountains artist Amy Bell. The single is
due to be officially released on October 29th. The concept album is due for release in 2016.
