"Letterbox review"

“Piper McKinnon isn't a household name yet, but she certainly has the talent to become one in the near future. She effortlessly blends modern folk and blue-eyed soul together in a mix that will appeal to fans of everything from Tori Amos to Nickel Creek. McKinnon's most notable asset is a dynamic voice that can alternate between sweet and sultry, both with the same natural ease.” ~ Paige P., CD Baby - CD Baby

"Angels"

Nice Work

First off this is a nice studio recording, very professional sounding. There are quite a few instruments on this track like drums, bass, electric guitar, keyboards, vocals, and backing vocals but manages not to sound to cluttered. The backing band does a great job at providing a light rock sound with a nice relaxing mid tempo feel. The lead female vocals are great and the lyrics come very natural and effortlessly from her mouth. Her voice sounds very familiar yet I can't put my finger on it but Dayna Manning & Melanie Doane do come to mind. The song structure is pretty simple & makes it worthy of airplay with what's being played on radio today. I can see this song being played on a modern country station as the vocals seem to have some country influence. I'm sure there are people out there who would enjoy this song very much and I can picture a woman singing to this song on the radio while doing household chores.

I'd Go To Church If She Sang There

immediately pleasant.great hook that makes you guess this is going to be good.the vocals started and i went "whew", the intro was no fluke, this is good.
this is a great song by a talented band.the lyrics are awesome and the singer is sooo emotional.it sounded like something christine mcvie would write.
i believe there's an angel singing this song.(listen to it and you'll understand)

"Letterbox review"

Cuts deep like the old-school, sexy and tough.

Great album. Terrifically varied with touches of blues, rock and classic balladry. Piano is the dominant instrument, but the guitars and drums cut through where appropriate. ANGELS and PINS are the standout trax, showing a worldiness beyond her young years. Highly recommended!

Bio

Piper McKinnon - Lead Vocals, Piano

When someone dared a 19-year-old Piper to sing an old blues song at an open mic jam, they had no idea what they had started. Neither had she! With a natural intuition about music and a ‘good ear’ she marched up on stage and belted out “Love Me Like A Man”… well, that was that. This felt good! She knew that THIS was what she wanted to do.

A few more years and a bit more confidence has seen Piper mature into an accomplished songwriter and recognised talent in the Lower Mainland of BC. Her early influences of Albert King, Bonnie Raitt, and the Little River Band have seen her through several regular performances at the Yale and other local venues.

A FACTOR grant brought the release of her first 8-song album to the acclaim of many of her peers and several bright and shining reviews locally and internationally, even gaining airplay in Europe! “Letterbox” is an introspective mix of songs with elements of truth and imagination lending credibility to this young woman’s abilities to enrapture her audience through prose and musical phrase.

With a ‘myspace’ site proudly handling over a hundred thousand views, she is steadily making her mark on the music world.
