Bio
Short biography
Pippo Pollina is born in 1963. He grows up in Palermo (Sicily) and, during the 1980th, studies law at the local university and, at the same time, classical guitar at the Amici della musica academy of music.
He is engaged in anti-mafia-actions and acts as a journalist for the monthly journal I Siciliani, until the chief editor is murdered by the Cosa Nostra.
Together with other musicians of Palermo, Pippo Pollina forms the band Agricantus. During this cooperation he gains first intensive concert experiences in Italy and abroad. Moreover, the members of the band hold workshops at grammar- and high-schools in Sicily.
In the end of 1985, Pippo Pollina leaves Italy to start a journey without a real determined intent. After 3 years of world tour he settles in Switzerland. Today, hes living there in Zurich. A collection of over 150 songs leaves his mark on 15 albums, more than 3000 concerts in Italy, Germany, Austria, Benelux, France and Egypt.
Pippo Pollina is an artist who is in continually movement. This is pointed out by the numerous artistic collaborations, amongst others with Franco Battiatio, Inti Illimani, Georges Moustaki, Nada, Charlie Mariano, Konstantin Wecker, Linard Bardill, Patent Ochsner etc.
Diverse mentions of musical contests in Italy and other countries are an indication for his association with tradition of the great Italian Cantautore.
The presentation of the song-writer-opera Ultimo volo (The last flight) about the tragedy of Ustica, this mysterious crash of a passenger plane DC 9, which crashed into the water next to the isle of Ustica, enthuses the audience as well as the media.
