PISTOL ATKINS

Pistols Atkins is a name that rings bells across the nation and represents an 80’s baby that has taken self-motivation to a new level of success. Pistols Atkins received his name while in college for his street cred but he carried the name on to build a brand that incorporates the Detroit hustle and national super star flare. Proud of his Joy Road roots, his story is unlike most rappers in the game today. This former Alabama State student majored in business management and education, learned at the age 19 that music was his first and undeniable love. His inspiration into music was influenced by the Cash Money Records family. It wasn’t hard for him to make a name for himself in the rap industry when Pistol Atkins linked with prominent record label, Blue Collar. With his connection he instantly escalated and he became a notable name with DTP and Gorilla Zoe. Gorilla Zoe even makes mention to him in underground mix tape.

His ventures led him to Atlanta, Georgia where him and former manager, Clifton Martin decided the best move was to go back to Detroit and create their own entity, Million Dollar Fresh Boy. Though he won’t define success as record sales, his mix tape release “Pistol Packing (The Album before the Album)”, did well in the underground market. In 2008, Pistol Atkins received television promotion on Channel 33 on The Turbulence Show. There he gained artist recognition in Detroit and now hosts parties at Detroit premiere adult entertainment clubs and nightclubs. His singles “Swagger Back” and “D Hat” has been heard on WJLB 97.9 and HOT 102.7 in Detroit, he has also performed at Summer Jams 2008, Michigan State University, University of Michigan and Alabama State hosted an event in his honor “The Welcome Back Concert”. Though people may perceive him as flashy because of his wardrobe and jewelry, his says his lyrics are deeply rooted in his community and their struggles. In 2010 Pistols Atkins signed to Royalty Records with promotion from Kano of Connected Entertainment. He keeps his vision for his music career narrow and says his sole mission is to bring back to Detroit what others seem to have ignored. Summer 2011 Pistol Atkins released a mixtape hosted by Dj Drama entitled Welcome to Detroit The Pistol Atkins Gangsta Grillz; now available on Amazon.
