Bio

Hidden within the rolling foothills of south-east Melbourne, just beyond the grasp of the urban sprawl, a recording studio operates. Nestled amongst old farm buildings, this studio is neither big nor well known, but nonetheless provides fertile ground for some creative songwriting and recording. Crammed between its old guitars, synths, organs, tape machines and the sessions that pay, a band has been quietly working away…

Claiming no strong affinity for any one genre but drawing elemental strands from many, Pitching Woo cuts a winding path through a countryside of indie, alt-country, new wave, ambient and electronic. A strong respect for good song-writing and creative recording has woven a fabric with threads of influence from bands such as the Underground Lovers, Sebadoh, The Go-betweens, DJ Shadow, Crooked Fingers, The Church, Elbow, and Built to Spill.
Pitching Woo has not been without its share of dramas. Just days before a run of shows early in 2005, one member suffered a particularly bad accident, leaving the band with little to do for the 4 months he was sent away for repairs. This seemingly major setback proved a catalyst for the production of an EP made up of a handful of earlier recordings that had threatened to remain unfinished. Self funded and for the most part self-recorded, the EP, entitled “yours, etc.”, represents a collection of mellower tracks that reflect the band’s genesis.

With the new EP coming out soon, a song featured on the current Mess+Noise compilation (issue #4) and more upcoming shows in all major cities things are just getting started.
