Power pop with a jangly streak of alt-rock and enough touches of art and prog rock to make things interesting, the music found on the debut CD from Escondido's Pitch LaRooche is surprisingly strong and polished for a self-produced effort from a young band.
Brothers Jonathan (vocals, guitar) and Levi Pitcher (bass) helped found the band three years ago, and have since been joined by drummer Jordan Cronin and cellist/guitarist Erdis Maxhelaku.
The combination of Jonathan Pitcher's deep, rich vocals and Maxhelaku's shimmering cello work gives the band much of its almost mysterious alt-prog sound.
The 11 songs were written by Jonathan Pitcher, and if no breakout hit seems to reside among them, all are pleasant and melodic.
What is perhaps most interesting about "Love Song for No One" is that the band's own promotional materials describe it as a snapshot of a band in transition. While Pitch LaRooche has been playing tons of gigs around San Diego County, polishing its sound and building a fan base, it's also advertising for a female singer on its Web site.
So it seems likely the band's second album will sound very different. Still and all, this first one is a nice surprise and worth a listen. - Jim Trageser- NC Times
PitchLaRooche, an up-and-coming North County Band, played to an enthusiastic crowd last weekend at the Escondido Street Faire.
The audience, made up of fair-goers trying to get out of the sun and those looking to enjoy some live music on a Sunday afternoon, seemed eager to lend an ear to this talented quartet.
The band's set list, consisting of covers as well as some originals, featured guitar-driven rock songs with tight melodies. While playing the majority of the set with three guitars and a drummer, the group showcased its depth when it introduced a cello into the mix.
While only together a short time, this group engaged the audience with charming stories and elicited a fair amount of giggles and whispers from adoring female fans.

PitchLaRooche is an up and coming San Diego North County Band which started three years ago in a friend’s Escondido garage. With only two of it’s original existing members, singer/songwriter/guitarist Jonathan Pitcher (19 yrs) and his brother, bass player, Levi Pitcher (16 yrs), PitchLaRooche moves forward. Although the band has endured many growing pains in the past they have now settled into their own. With the addition in February 2004 of Albanian concert cellist Erdis Maxhelaku, (24 yrs), PitchLaRooche discovered it’s depth and dimension. Now with newly added drummer Danny Green (19yrs.) the band is energized and taking the lead!
PitchLaRooche is now releasing their self produced first full length CD entitled “Love Song for No One”. Every song on this CD is different in style and stands alone. With acoustic, rock, jazz, and pop influences the band has self titled their genre “eclectic rock”.
The band’s name always seems to be a topic of discussion, although it really doesn’t mean anything. The first part “pitch” is derived from the names of the two brothers and “larooche” is just a made up word that started with the original drummer and just stuck. Although no one ever seems to be able to read it, spell it or pronounce it; the band finds security in knowing that they will never have to change their name because another band had it first.
Although PitchLaRooche would love to expand with keyboards, female vocals and maybe even horns one day, they are content today in knowing who they are right now.
