"PITCH UNION/Mohawk Clock Machine"

The band play spacey style rock/metal. The music is kind of trippy, but has a nice smooth edge to it as well. The vocals are sort of alternative, but fit the music. This was different and not your normal stuff, which is a plus for them. The musicianship is good too. The more I played this, the more I appreciated it - Metal Core Fanzine

"Pitch Union, Mohawk Clock Machine,Review"

First let me briefly explain a bit about me. I am not young. My musical taste is literally never ending. I enjoy keeping my music all over the map. One day it will be metal, next day it may be jazz, ambient, blues, or classical. I am a band manager, promoter, music website moderator, and booking agent for two nightclubs. I am also a musician.
I have been writing reviews for various sites or zines for a while now and I suddenly noticed something. All of my reviews have been positive and short of constructive criticism. I began to wonder if I was being too nice, too fluffy.
So I went back over all of my reviews of late and scrutinized myself but soon realized that the answer was quite simple, all of the music I have been reviewing has been top notch and literally void of any negatives that I could find.
However, when Brad from Cyclone Records asked me to review Pitch Unions ‘Mohawk Clock Machine’ I thought o.k. Here’s an opportunity to enter into this review, open minded, ready to listen to this Windsor Ontario band that I had never heard before, prepared to be on alert for anything that may give me an opportunity to show that I can be critical when required.
After thoroughly listening to Mohawk Clock Machine six times from beginning to end all I can say is damn it! I loved it. The first listen had me sitting attentively on the edge of my seat, by the third listen I was in full recline listening behind the face of the music. Yes, as stated in their site, rock, metal, alternative and sounds like Tool, Clutch, Faith no more. I can hear traces of these bands as well. I read somewhere else that someone mentioned Emo? Couldn’t hear that at all.
What I did hear was a lot more than this. I heard traces of Pink Floyd, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Peter Gabriel, as well as half a dozen other influences lurking in the background, quietly weaving themselves through the complexities of the music. If I didn’t know better I could have easily thought Brian Eno had a hand in the engineering of this album.
More importantly I heard a group of musicians that obviously have a huge appreciation and respect for each other and their individual talents. It was not what I was expecting.
Being a drummer myself I was immediately drawn to Aaron’s unique style, which will now have me sitting behind my skins with some new ideas. C-bass and Brandon’s melding of strings and their close connection is intimate and a thing of beauty at times. Together, it is a perfect setting for Paul Taylor’s strong vocals to complete the foundation and it creates a combined vision for the listener to appreciate. They are currently in the studio creating their next work of art and once it is complete it will be released through none other than our friends at Cyclone records. You can also tune in and have a listen to their current cd at www.cyclonerecords.ca/releases-pitchunion.htm.
Pitch Union command respect and attention. They have obviously paid their dues and worked the trenches over the years to bring them to this point. I can only see one direction for this band in the future and that is straight up.

So there you have it, for what it’s worth. This is truly a ‘must have’ cd to add to your collection. It will not collect dust; it will remain at the top of your pile for a long time. It will spread its wings to your friends who once they hear it will have to go get it.
My recommendation to anyone who has a chance to see this band while they are still plowing through the local clubs is to go and see them, meet with them, so that one day you can look back and say, “ Hey, I used to chill with those guys before they were huge”.

"Review from MQMFEST 2006"

Pitch Union from Windsor, Ontario serenaded us all on day three with what can only be described as epic compositions that left you in awe. With vocals that would rival some of the biggest names out right now, these guys aren't kidding around. Pitch Union has shared the same stage with Sloan, Bif Naked, Big Sugar, Broadzilla, and even Queens Of The Stone Age; proving that they are fit for the big leaugues of rock n' roll. Having met them after their set, Pitch Union also proved to be the down to earth guys you would epect them to be and you could tell that any success they have had or will have is not being taken for granted. Check out CycloneRecords.ca if you want to find out more about these guys.

"Canada Social Indie Spotlight April 2007"

Windsor Social Magazine says "A Pitch Union show is a metal fan's dream. From beginning to end, the band manages to keep the crowd entertained with their loud, pounding bass lines and powerful vocals. They get those in attendance involved by making jokes with the crowd and taking any opportunity with them on a more intimate level." - Canada Social

Bio

Pitch Union's music has been refining itself for three years and it continually amazes and entrances their audiences. Their music falls into the category of Heavy Rock Alternative, however, the music has developed a strong underground following because it is distinct from most forms of rock music. Hailed as ‘autumn' or ‘harvest' rock, it is a hypnotic, fluid and driving style that lingers in a person's mind long after the music is over. With extended musical intros and exits, a bulk of their songs have been described as haunting, all-encompassing and forceful.

The four members of Pitch Union pride themselves on their ‘harvest' rock signature sound, which is considered a mature sound but has proven to appeal to all ages. They do not play cover songs even though they admit to musical influences and admiration for bands such as Tool, Faith No More, Clutch and Kyuss. Pitch Union is currently approaching their newest material with great vigor and aggression. Each member is confident in their ability and the combined vision on the band. They've been honoured to have complete creative control over their music and be the vanguards of the signature sound of ‘harvest' rock. It's their goal to continue making music while conducting themselves in a professional and humble manner.

Pitch Union was formed in 2004 and based in Windsor, Ontario. Since their inception they've headlined massive amounts of local shows and have readily brought their music to venues in Toronto and many cities between there and Windsor. Pitch Union has always boasted about their willingness to trade gigs and their natural ability to coordinate with out of town bands. The band and some of their most dedicated fans have been known to make appearances at Harpo's in Detroit, The Embassy in London and the Opera House, Lee's Palace and the Kathedral in Toronto. Being requested to open for Bif Naked and the Queens of the Stone Age has been an honour for them.

Pitch Union's first album, Mohawk Clock Machine, was self released September 30th, 2005. Shortly after the release Cyclone Records signed the band. Mohawk Clock Machine was re-issue by Cyclone Records and even though it's been through four pressings, demand still exists for more copies. The exponentially increasing fan base of Pitch Union has been difficult to satiate with enough copies of the album and merchandise.

In 2006 Pitch Union toured in support of their 2005 album release. They promoted it and traveled around Ontario to play their songs. With the impending release of their next full length album, Calibrate the Element, they hope to spend more time on the road bringing it to the people. They plan to drastically expand the radius of their tour to placate their more distant fans.

Pitch Union's music has been featured in an extreme snowmobiling DVD and provided the lead track in a compilation album featuring Canadian bands. Interest generated over the internet has been encouraging. Pitch Union has enjoyed numerous pod casts and online radio shows. Songs from Mohawk Clock Machine have been played on popular local FM stations as well as university stations. Next Phaze is a single of particular interest and is still played on 100.7 FM Windsor/Detroit.

Fans eagerly anticipate new singles off of Calibrate the Element, which is due for a 2007 summer release.
