P.J. OLSSON
P.J. Olsson is an eclectic singer-songwriter who was catapulted into the national limelight following the release of his first album, Words For Living. The groundbreaking CD created a palpable buzz in both the industry and among critics who generated rave reviews in local and national press. The San Francisco Examiner proclaimed: Star of the future is here, now. Rolling Stone, Newsweek, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair and Bazaar all lauded the CD, while The Chicago Sun-Times hailed it as an indelible treat from start to finish. It also earned him appearances on late-night talk shows, including the Late Show with David Letterman.
Olssons music, which features a fresh blend of electronic and natural sounds, has also been featured prominently in commercials, on TV shows, and in films. Ready for a Fall from Words for Living instantly struck a chord with fans when it aired on the wildly popular Dawsons Creek. The song was such a hit with viewers that it earned a place on the TV shows Platinum soundtrack, Songs from Dawsons Creek Volume 1.
The Whistle Song, an infectious tune from Olssons second release, Beautifully Insane, was picked up by the Mars candy company for a long-running series of TV commercials for its Starburst chews. The hum-along tune played in the background of the ads while a trio of unfazed slackers strolled past shark attacks, car accidents and Kung Fu fighters. The song and the spots, which appeared on MTV, Fox and the WB, generated so much buzz that they quickly reached cult status. One reviewer at The Wall Street Journal liked the tune so much, he wrote, We can't get the song out of our heads!
Olssons tunes have made their way onto the big screen, too. Visine, from Words for Living is the opening title track for Nice Guys, an indie film starring Jason Mewes (Clerks, Clerks 2). Olsson couldnt be happier to hear his music on TV and in films. In fact, the intriguing artist admits, Sometimes these days I like the music in commercials more than what I hear on radio.
PJ's new album "American Scream" will be released October 16 on CBS Records.
