"Big Break ... Local lads get a leg up with music career"

"Mackay band PJ Reh ride a wave of success after scoring some big gigs"
"Young guns proving ones to watch"
"Remember the name PJ Reh... this mackay based band is starting to get noticed."

The boys of PJ Reh are heading for the bigtime. Playing in Brisbane last week, the Mackay band battled it out against 300 other bands to become a Queensland state finalist of Garage2v 2009.

"It was great, we met alot of great people within the industry who gave us tips and pointers, we were the only band there not from Brisbane," band member Brad Butcher said. Playing music which is a mixture of folk, roots and indie, band members Brad Butcher, Scott Rehbein, Dean Rehbein and new member Jordan Geisler are getting noticed thanks to the recent Brisbane gig.
"We're waiting to hear back about a support gig on the Gold Coast, I've been checking my email every two minutes for any news, Brad laughed.
On their return to Mackay the band were told they had won the opportunity to support Shannon Noll this weekend at the Andergrove Tavern. "Everyone's heard of Shannon and you can always learn from someone like him who has been within the industry." Brad said. This will be the second time the boys have supported a headline act after supporting the Beautiful Girls on New Year's Eve, It won't be long before PJ Reh is asking someone to support them; this weekend will also see the launch of the group's debut EP.
Brad said a big thanks had to be given to Graeme Connors who helped them get ther EP done. "I sent a demo tape to Graeme Connors and he liked our sound, he pointed us in the right direction and put us in contact with a recording studio in Brisbane, where we recorded our EP, he said.
The band will perform at the is weekend's launch, introducing new band member drummer Jordan Geisler.
We will do the same set we did in Brisbane, including some covers, originals and end with an acoustic session. We're hoping alot of people will turn out for the day," Brad said. If you can't make it to the CD Launch this weekend, Brad said requests for the CD could be made through the group's Myspace site or at Canelands Music. "I've been trying to get as much of our music out there as I can, that's why we have a Myspace site, Facebook and any other thing I could put our music on," Brad said.
The next step for the group will be to organise a producer for their debut album, Brad said the band already had 10 songs written. Saturday's launch will kick off at 1pm at the Kooyong Hotel, Harbour Rd, Mackay. - In The Mix, Daily Mercury Entertainment Guide

Bio

PJ Reh are an aspiring original band rising quickly in the Queensland music scene. Formed in 2007 and consisting of, brothers, Scott and Dean Rehbein along with their good friend Brad Butcher. Finding a solid drummer is not an easy task and we would like to introduce our latest recruit, Jordan Giesler. PJ Reh offer a diverse mix of chillaxin’ tunes playing an easy Folk/Indie/Roots style that is suitable for all ages. You’ll get that Sunday session feeling no matter what day of the week it is.

Brad and Scott are old school friends. The three guys used to jam together and often spoke of starting a band. Early in 2007 they decided to make it happen and PJ Reh was formed. Performing live at venues in and around Mackay and the Whitsunday’s, Brad, Scott and Dean are thoroughly enjoying every moment.

Raised in the Burdekin, Dean and Scott’s family shipped south to Mackay where their love for the beach and skate boarding took hold. With an interest in all genres of music you can’t help but notice their passion for the ocean coming through in artists such as Jack Johnson and Ben Harper. Strongly influenced by their father Peter, which explains their musical feel for a lot of 60’s and 70’s music.

Brad Butcher is a local from Mackay and has performed in the solo scene for almost 3 years. He submitted a lot of his early work to song-writing competitions in Brisbane and played regular gigs in the Coalfields before joining forces with Scott and Dean.

Scoring 14 place in the Roots category in the TripleJ Unearthed Competition and gaining airplay on JJJ, inspired the guys to push harder for the musical success that they all crave. Since then the band has evolved and so has the song writing. Scott now also plays ukalaele and sings, Dean has evolved as a guitarist and lap steel guitarist and Brad has added harmonica to the ever growing repertoire.

PJ Reh have recently finished recording their debut EP. Recorded at Nasty Studios in Westend, Brisbane. All material was written and performed by PJ Reh and is beng financed and released independantly with an upcoming EP Launch planned for March 14th 2009. The Official CD launch will be held on Saturday 14th March 2009, at the Kooyong Hotel in North Mackay.

Various tracks on the EP were previewed during recent interviews on local stations 4MKFM, 4CRM & 101.1FM. PJ Reh continue to recieve airplay and interviews with local stations and TripleJ prior to the launch. Other highlights include being QLD State Finalists in Garage2v 2009, support act for Shannon Noll in Mackay and Airlie Beach and interviews with SEAFM & HOTFM. PJ Reh have now made some large waves in the mainstream audience.

Just announced... PJ Reh to support 'Ash Grunwald' at the Andergrove in Mackay, July 2nd 2009.

PJ Reh have developed a rapidly growing fan base in Mackay, the Whitsundays and surrounding districts. This naturally talented group have formed their own distinctive sound and are now recognised as a band to watch out for.

PJ Reh's official manager is Jo Paparone.
