Bio

Plaid Penmanship was formed by singer, songwriter, rhythm guitarist, and keyboardist Ian Hoffman. He brought with him original songs written as early as 2000. He was joined by Matt "Hootie" Ginsberg on bass/backup vocals, Bill Hoffman on drums, Kevin Goss on keyboards/backup vocals, and Keith Schell on lead guitar.

With a broad range of musical styles that includes rock/pop, alternative, punk, electronica, and even some jazz/samba, Plaid Penmanship boasts a large collection of addictive, original, yet somewhat familar songs.

Ian Hoffman began his music career as a film music enthusiast, writing piano and orchestra scores as early as age 7. He picked up French Horn and Trumpet, playing in ensembles and jazz bands from junior high through high school. In high school he began experimentaing with electronica, techno, some extreme experimental noise, and at the end of high school began playing guitar. He quickly began to build a huge collection of orignal works.

Bill Hoffman, older brother of Ian, is an extremely talented and versatile drummer that also began playing at a very early age. He has played in many groups including, but not limited to: Abboration Quartet, The Vig, Suburban Boogie, The Laura Hoffman Jazz Trio, The Sherwood Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, and most recently Dirty Love, which also included Keith Schell.

Matt Ginsberg is the newest member of Plaid Penmanship. He started playing mandolin on a few songs, and then started singing and playing on almost every song Plaid Penmanship has. Since the loss of their bass player, Matt has stepped into roll of bass player. His ability to jump in and add almost anything to a song has been invaluable, and their sound and direction is already evolving with his inclusion in the group. He plays in several other groups, including mandolin/vocals in Steam-Powered Aeroplane, bass/vocals in The Pod, and Ween Tribute Band.

Keith Schell, a brilliant, innovative lead guitarist, brings texture and counter melodies to Plaid Penmanship. He has successfully filled out many of the songs, giving them a completeness when performed live. He has played in several bands, such as, Dirty love, the original Cealed Kasket, filled in for Frank Bang's Secret Stash, Ronnie Tambourine, and King of the Roaches.

Kevin Goss (aka Snorbiferous, Nevik Ssog) began playing piano/keyboards in early childhood. His most recent endevaor prior to Plaid Penmanship was playing keyboard drums and singing back up vocals with the mysterious KGB, a masked punk band with a large Indiana following.
