THE PLANETS

MUSIC OF THE SPHERES
Drawing inspiration from a wide range of areas and eras such as the British Invasion, modern-day Britain, and Britain two years ago, indie dance-rock band The Planets describe their sound in six simple words:

"Imagine the 90s never even happened."

Combining the angular, stripped-down indie sound of post-millenium artists such as The Strokes and The Futureheads with the edgy, synth-driven swagger of 80s artists like Depeche Mode and the Talking Heads, as well as the youthful energy and skilled song-crafting of the 1960s British Invasion, The Planets strive to move their listeners, both emotionally and on the dance floor.

ABOUT THE PLANETS
The Planets were formed in early 2005 in Port Townsend, WA by childhood friends Yuri Tolpin and Gavi de Tarr along with fellow Port Townsendite Emily Peet. The other three members, Nigel Stadick, Ben Wasson, and Sean Vinson, were schoolmates of Gavi's and were inducted somewhat later. They named themselves The Planets, and each member aligned with a heavenly body: Yuri became Jake Mars, Gavi became Justice Jupiter, Emily became Jules Saturn, Nigel became Nigel Neptune, Ben became James Mercury, and Sean became Lex Pluto. Together, they work towards a singular goal: to use their musical powers to bring joy back into music.

LOST IN SPACE
The Planets released their first EP, entitled "Lost in Space", in August 2006 that consists of six songs, including their two most well-known: "Mafioso", a driving danceable number with a catchy guitar riff and its fair share of 'Oh oh's, and "The First Signs", a synth-laden guy/girl duet about love at first awkward sight. It speaks to their versatility, however, that not only are the songs all differing in style, but that each and every one is somebody's favorite Planets song. To date, they have sold hundreds of EPs.
