Bio
Plato Zorba was formed in the late, harsh New Jersey winter of 2012. The original lineup consisted of Joey Garofalo on bass, John Fortunato on drums and myself (Rob Butkowski) on the guitar. By June, we started playing shows on the Jersey Shore at various beachside venues. We also began recording our demo, “In the Shallows” at Submergent Studios with the brilliant, Pete Andrews. In September we added the talents of Tara Dente on vocals and keys. We have since released our demo and opened up for The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies at the Stone Pony. Zorba draws from many influences such as Henry Mancini, Martin Denny, Combustible Edison, Dick Dale, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet and much more. We aim to continue a long tradition of reverb soaked loungy, cinematic, jazz inspired surf rock.
