The members of Play came together in the fall of 2005 and immediately found the kind of musical kinship that only happens once in a sonic boom. From their first rehearsal it was clear that after years of throwing their musical ideas against the wall they had finally found one onto which they could stick.
Fusing a nicely grooved plate of soul and pop, with a touch of singer-songwriter thoughtfulness thrown in for flavor, Play is out to put the fun in introspection. With influences ranging from John Mayer to Alicia Keys and everything else in between, Play’s music spans the quirky, the serious and the sensual, sometimes all within the same song.
Made up of singer/keyboardist Laura Guzzo, drummer and sometimes-guitar player Duncan Macmillan, bass player Tim Matthews and keyboard player Marco Loggia, Play debunks the theory that there is strength in numbers. Its members’ musical chops are evident and though the lineup is sparse, they blast out a sound bounteous enough to flood any room with their soulful musings.
