Their Grrrrreat!
Despite my hangover I came to the conclusion this morning that we may have seen one of the most outstanding cover bands of all time! "PLAYED OUT" rocked the local Providence art venue JAKE'S last night. The guys of PO released a firestorm of cover songs and proved that in order to wail you not only need to know it all but you need to play it well. From R&B to Rock, Rap and Funk, these artists handled the crowd with stamina and continuous quality that is immeasurable in the cover band scene!
If you haven't seen PLAYED OUT — You definitely should. Their setlists left NOTHING out as they brought the crowd to their feet with the most amazing and daring covers and musical choices I have ever heard from a cover band. In fact, it is the quality of their performance that makes them such a success. The show featured soulful vocals and energy by El Cruz. Accompanied by RIDICULOUS guitar playing by Michael Geher. Dave Kurdzionak, as if his keyboard antics and energy wasn't enough, ALSO PLAYS SAX!!! The extremely tight rhythm section featured Sean Greene on drums, and great in-the-pocket grooves by bass guitarist Jake Jackson — Really, the entire band was great. Great energy, and awesome harmonies... They put on a great show.
We all know if you go to see a cover band you want them to be talented but what I didn't know until last night is that you want to be awed! More than a few times I found myself screaming NO WAY!!! As songs came sneaking out of the woodwork in perfectly executed compilations turning songs you may just like into music you cannot live without! You want to treat yourself this holiday? Go see this band!
