Biography

Equally dynamic in the acoustic setting or in the electric arena, singer-songwriter Steve Syx never fails to win over the hearts of his audience, both young and mature. Steve emanates strong vibes, through his quick wit, easy smile and approachability. Passionate and determined, his inner strength is apparent in the songs he writes. He lives his life through his music, offering up songs about one man’s journey that we can all relate to in our own lives in one way or another.
Syx has been a fixture in the Austin music scene since the ’80’s, fronting several bands, and making the biggest impact with the band Gyro. When that project played out numerous musicians backed him up on the stage, spent a few years enjoying the ride and then moved on. Steve decided to roll with the punches, and kept his face in the scene by playing solo acoustic shows, running a singer/songwriter showcase and teaching guitar to both beginner and advanced players.

Mr. Troy Frizzell, bass player extraordinaire. After one audition they seemed to gravitate on the same wave length. Frizzell brings a new expression of bass playing into the music which adds the final element to complete the Southern Grilled Sound. Frizz started performing professionally right out of high school in various musical projects. He continued to grow as a musician by playing in the early 80’s Austin music scene, performing in bands of a variety of styles, blues, pop, classic rock, oldies and even country. Later in his music career he performed with the band Brazos, opening for major touring bands, two of his favorites were Steve Warner and Doug Stone. His interest grew and he decided to take a break from Bass guitar. Troy picked up a passion he had put aside earlier and he learned acoustic guitar, perfecting songs for his own pleasure and enjoyment. Getting an itch to play bass again and stretch out with the acoustic guitar performance. When Syx and Frizzell hooked up for the first time to play, the magic happened within a few simple cover tunes. The rest is Now!

Best 4 Me

Written By: Steve Syx

It seems to me I don't understand what part of the team to play
I only ask for the chance together we can be the way
words can take a new meaning
look in side I'm afraid to see

sometimes he guides me in ways
He knows whats best 4 me
he knows whats best 4 me
he knows whats best 4 me
he knows whats best 4 me

I won't stop and try to explain
look at my actions you'll see
no words that I can say to you
without the ones who guide me
words can take a new meaning
look in side you're afraid to see

** chorus **
** lead break **

All of us better take a little cash
and go buy you a little hope
my words don't mean to say to you
but, my actions put me on a rope
how bout you

words can take a new meaning
look in side I'm afraid to see

sometimes he guides me
He knows whats best 4 me
he knows whats best 4 me
he knows whats best 4 me
he knows whats best 4 me

Don't Chya Know

Written By: Steve Syx

Tell ya my soul it comes from the Stars . . . . Don't . . chya . . know
It don't hang out in these broken down Bars . . . . don't chya know . .

I've been workin for so many Stiffs
Just tryin to find me a new Riff
Take the pain away from my drownin soul that breaks I paid another price for a world of hurries to make

Took too much time to get this far up the road done shed another load off my mind of worries
Don't chya know. . Don't chya know . . Don't chya know

I've been up and down this City
Too many assholes been shitin in my kitty
Take the pain away from my drownin soul that breaks I paid another price for a world of hurries to make

Took too much time to get this far up the road done shed another load off my mind of worries
Don't chya know. . Don't chya know . . Don't chya know

My big brother told me "Son just think like a duck"
I said "brother it's so hard to find a good . . . . Buck"

Take the pain away from my drownin soul that breaks I paid another price for a world of hurries to make

Took too much time to get this far up the road shed another load off my mind of worries
Don't chya know. . Don't chya know . . Don't chya know
Don't chya know!

Back Against the Wall

Back Against the Wall
© 2004

Don’t want to sit around and wonder
No looking back at that long road has been
Don’t wanna think about the road I’m going on
Just wanna ride the wave and let the music
Let the music take me home
Take me home take me home

I don’t wanna see a crystal ball showin me the next day
No taken hostage in any sorrowed games to play
Don’t wanna think about the road I’m going on

Just wanna ride the wave and let the music
Let the music let the music
take me home – don’t think about it
Take me home – can’t live without it
take me home – will I fall I doubt it
with my back against a wall
back against the wall

yea they told me boy ya better build that road
up on a little bit of higher ground
ya better leave sometime behind that door
that door that just might open up tomorrow

Just wanna ride the wave and let the music
Let the music let the music
take me home – don’t think about it
Take me home – can’t live without it
take me home – will I fall I doubt it
with my back against a wall
back against the wall
