Playin' Syx
Finding MySelf HERE
3.5 stars
Unquestionably the rockinest stay-at-home
dad I've ever heard, Steve Syx has put
together a rootsy, southern rock record fully
embracing his kid-friendly, rocker-approved
style. True, some of the songs are a little
cheesy, but with his earnest voice and gen-uine
ability to balls-out rock, it's easy to
ignore some of the less inspired lyrics.

"It's Raw"

The music that Steve Syx (Throat ~ Rhythm and Lead Guitars) creates is raw. When I say raw, I mean it in a good way. This is what rock music is supposed to be all about. Now if you listen to Playin’ Syx you would not suspect that he would be a stay at home father to a teenager and pre teen daughter.

He is a good songwriter, playing his six string with what sounds like a great southern influence. The debut CD “Finding MySelf HERE” is something worth listening too. Check it out. - Northeast Intune Magazine

"Good time rock-n-roll ain't so bad now is it? Playin' Syx is Southern festival rock at its finest. Loud, obnoxious and full of energy and emotion. The hooks and riffs alone will get you moving. Don't let the pure innocence and heartbreak of their lyrics fool you- these boys can rock."

Bio

Equally dynamic in the acoustic setting or in the electric arena, singer-songwriter Steve Syx never fails to win over the hearts of his audience, both young and mature. Steve emanates strong vibes, through his quick wit, easy smile and approachability. Passionate and determined, his inner strength is apparent in the songs he writes. He lives his life through his music, offering up songs about one man’s journey that we can all relate to in our own lives in one way or another.
Syx has been a fixture in the Austin music scene since the ’80’s, fronting several bands, and making the biggest impact with the band Gyro. When that project played out numerous musicians backed him up on the stage, spent a few years enjoying the ride and then moved on. Steve decided to roll with the punches, and kept his face in the scene by playing solo acoustic shows, running a singer/songwriter showcase and teaching guitar to both beginner and advanced players.

Mr. Troy Frizzell, bass player extraordinaire. After one audition they seemed to gravitate on the same wave length. Frizzell brings a new expression of bass playing into the music which adds the final element to complete the Southern Grilled Sound. Frizz started performing professionally right out of high school in various musical projects. He continued to grow as a musician by playing in the early 80’s Austin music scene, performing in bands of a variety of styles, blues, pop, classic rock, oldies and even country. Later in his music career he performed with the band Brazos, opening for major touring bands, two of his favorites were Steve Warner and Doug Stone. His interest grew and he decided to take a break from Bass guitar. Troy picked up a passion he had put aside earlier and he learned acoustic guitar, perfecting songs for his own pleasure and enjoyment. Getting an itch to play bass again and stretch out with the acoustic guitar performance. When Syx and Frizzell hooked up for the first time to play, the magic happened within a few simple cover tunes. The rest is Now!
