San Francisco Bay Area band PMB releases two debut albums on their own label PMB Entertainment

San Francisco, CA August 12, 2004

San Francisco Bay Area Super Band PMB announces the release of their debut albums Continuous Wave, a 12 song full length LP, and Continuous Wave Bonus Tracks, a 5 song EP. Both albums are available now on their official band web site www.PMBmusic.net, as well as CDBaby.com, and Amazon.com. The band is the fortuitous union of drummer Darrell Green, bassist David Ewell, keyboardist Jacob Aginsky, and saxophonist Howard Wiley. Each of these players is already known on the jazz scene and have appeared on many recordings. However, this is their first opportunity to join together in the same group to play the music of singer/songwriter/guitarist Paul McBurney.

Both albums were produced by the LA producer and guitarist Greg Porée www.poreemusic.com, recorded at Nolan Shahid’s Matrix Promotions Studio in Pasadena, CA and mixed by Wolfgang Amadeus. This is the same team, along with pianist/composer Jacob Aginsky, that produced the recent successful recordings for download queen singer/songwriter Gretchen Lieberum (www.gretchenmusic.com).

The story of the group can be seen on their recently completed EPK on the band’s website or a complimentary DVD that can be ordered from PMB Entertainment. Besides the EPK, the band has also produced a 30 minute documentary about the making of the albums, as well as a number of music videos produced by LA hip-hop video God Father G.Thomas Fergurson.

When the band mates are asked about PMB’s style of music, they will say it reminds them of “eighties rock”, that it has “the openness of jazz”, or that the songs are “more poems than ditties”. But while the songs are a mixture of styles, they members often give up categorization and just call it “Paul”. Mastering engineer Ron Boustead of Hollywood’s Precision Mastering said he found the lyrics “surprisingly fresh”.

The setting for the video of the Arabic rock influenced “Destroyer”, a song about the son of Godzilla who has a bad day living up to his father’s reputation, is the giant projection screens around Tokyo’s Shibuya JR Station hachiko exit.

The band can also be seen performing on a roof top in their native San Francisco against the backdrop of local scenes and an especially rare deep blue sky for the video of the song “Good Day”. The character of the song exclaims “It’s a good day to be a dog” in his attempt to escape his uncertainty about his real identity.

This band has an fresh approach to songwriting that is a throwback to the time when the songs were well thought out and purposeful. However, PMB is bunch of guys who love to play together and who want to bring the music to life, and take it to new heights on stage. While staying true to the song, every night the band will add something new both melodically and rhythmically to prove that improvisation is just as important as reliability.

Bio

The band has a way to mold each tune with a dash of rhythmic ingenuity, interesting counter chordal movement, and stretched solos without falling into the trap of similarity. To compare it to a current sound is tough, but the folk/funk/rock approach is similar to the Dave Matthews Band in the rhythmic section, and sometimes a bit like early Sting with Branford Marcalis in harmonic sense.
