Bio
PNMA is a Washington, D.C. - based singer, songwriter, producer and vocal arranger. Her eclectic brand of alternative R&B plants her virtually alone on an island of genre-shattering rebelliousness teeming with raw emotion, sensuality and bounce. She describes her sound as an aural isthmus that bridges two worlds, exploring the duality of the human condition. PNMA began singing at the young age of three, and songwriting at twelve years old. Coming from a family convinced there was no financial future in music, she initially decided to pursue a career in Psychology. It didn’t take long for her to realize that music was her calling and she left the University of Maryland to enroll in Howard University’s vocal jazz program. Here she polished her signature syncopation, complex cadences and high-contralto singing style. During college, PNMA worked over two years as lead writer, session singer and day-to-day project organizer for House Studio DC; penning the hits “Survivalism” for Mannywellz and “History” with Kokayi. Her work on the BOOMscat album No Life Jacket helped to land them at #18 on the iTunes R&B charts.
