Bio

Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, David began playing drums as a child at age three. In 1996, at age thirteen, he started his professional career by playing for a church. He started taking formal lessons in elementary school and continued thru college earning a bachelor's degree in music with a major in performance at Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama. During those informative years, David was able to perform in various marching bands, gospel choirs, orchestras, percussion ensembles and jazz ensembles while still playing in church.
In 2006, David performed his first major live recording, “Gospel Goes Classical” featuring Jonathan Butler, Ruben Studdard, and Juanita Bynum. He has worked with other wide variety of artists including GOSPEL: Alabama A&M University Choir, James Bignon, Jonathan Butler, Juanita Bynum, Byron Cage, Lecresia Campbell, Dorinda Clark-Cole, William Murphy III, Marvin Sapp, Micah Stampley, Benita Washington. R&B/SOUL: Ruben Studdard. CONTEMPORARY JAZZ: Mike Phillips, Tekneek, Eric Essex. CLASSICAL: Alabama Symphony Orchestra. RECORDINGS/DVD/ LIVE PERFORMANCES: Gospel Goes Classical, (The Word Network) International Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship Conferences, (TBN) E. Tony Gaines & V.I.P.. INTERNATIONAL TRIPS: St. Marten w/ Tekneek Band, Toronto, ON w/ Ruben Studdard.
Currently, Smith plays and tours with the Ruben Studdard and also plays and records local gigs regularly. He plans on continuing to teach, perform, record and tour throughout the world promoting music education through his powerful drum/percussion ministry!
