The best kept secret in music

"Fan Quote"

“I went to the P-Change web site and I'm listening to P-Change on my headphones. I love it! Most of the music I listen to is soul, R&B, funk, and, yes, disco with some surf and rockabilly. The soul and R&B that a lot bands play now doesn't have the full, tight sound P-Change has. The musical complexity drives the overall movement instead of slowing it down. Most Excellent!” - Mark Martino

"CD Baby Owner"

"We get about 100 albums a DAY coming in here now, (about 100,000 total), and yours is one of the best I've ever heard." - Derek Sivers

“Pocket Change, a Seattle jazz and funk septet known for its tightness and energy.” - Gene Stout - Seattle PI

"We loved you guys, great style of funk, great energy. Thanks for rocking it out. Great job!!!" - Interface Booking + Management

Local Jazz
Pocket Change: Pocket Change
(self issued: www.pchangemusic.com)

Pocket Change is a hot young septet raised on funk and fusion, assiduously dedicated to bringing the core strands of primal jazz through these forms...and to be loud! See if you don't let out a James Brown "YOW!" when they hit Wayne Shorter's "Deluge" on the one to kick this CD off. Pocket Change is so tight, we can read the dates on the pennies! Drummer Tarik Abouzied is the helmsman, and he lays down the mean grooves that drive the band to a fever. Frontman Jon Armstrong, on the tenor sax, wrote two of the charts but shows his chops on nearly every cut; Alto Art Brown is right there with him, cuttin'. There's no muted strumming from guitarist Cameron Peace, who's slingin' a Strat with a lot of watts, but he does not go all the way over into grinding rock - he's still jazz. Same can be said for Jake Amster, who funks it up on the bass to complement Abouzied's stickwork, but who retains all the nimble nuances that true jazz calls for. Everyone takes a break on the group effort "In My Office;" "Cage Match 2006!!!!" lives up to all four exclamation points, with trumpeter Scott Morning and Orlando Morales - on the Fender Rhodes, note - providing at least one each. Man, these guys are exciting!

"CD Baby Editor Review"

“Upon being informed that the name of a funk fusion band is Pocket Change, an avid fan of the form would have to hope there's some double entendre involved. In the case of this 7 piece outfit from Seattle, there's no doubt about it. From the first note, the bass and drums are locked tight in the "pocket" and feeding off each other, setting the foundation for a musician's playground that these guys occupy every square inch of. Featuring a distinct 3 piece horn section, guitar that sits back but steps up when needed, and a Fender Rhodes that is functionally holding it all together, the resulting sound manages to be classic but not dated. Fans of mid-70's mainstays like The Headhunters and Tower of Power will find these instrumental jams right up their alley, a funk blend that is accessible and catchy from the get go. This is just another testament to the musicianship here, which is wisely not trying to go over the head of the listener but instead attempting communication in a language we all understand.” - www.cdbaby.com

"KSER DJ Review"

Got funk? If you’re Pocket Change, a seven-man horn band consisting of former University of Washington music students, the answer is decidedly YES! These cats can wail with the best of them, JB horns and TOP included. If you’ve missed them live, run don’t walk to your computer and order their debut CD “Pocket Change” from CD Baby.com. Featuring a passel of original tunes, a squeaky tight rhythm section, and some of the best soloing around, “Pocket Change” slams you through a crash course in hot, sweaty funk-mania. Tarik Abouzied’s solid drumming powers the rhythm section, ably assisted by guitarist Cameron Peace, keyboardist Orlando Morales, and bassist Jake Amster. Trumpeter Scott Morning and saxophonists Jon Armstrong and Art Brown blow hot, heavy horn parts that recall the best work by the Average White Band, Tower of Power and other 70s funk disciples. On this first effort, Pocket Change makes a solid case for being worthy keepers of the jazz/funk legacy. Here’s hoping they make it funky for many years to come! Recommended tracks: “Deluge”, “In My Office”, “Tight Rope” and the dreamy cool down number, “Ten Floors Down.” - 90.7FM KSER Seattle

Bio

Pocket Change is a seven-piece funk project based in Seattle, Washington. With an updated funk sound
described as a blend of Soulive and Tower of Power, P-Change has enjoyed great success as a band that can
get audiences up and moving. Since the release of their self-titled debut album in September 2006, Pocket
Change has created a buzz with their high level of musical ability, incredible stage energy, and deep groove.

Pocket Change has received radio play on KEXP, KSER, and internet radio stations across the US and Europe.
Their first album was featured on CDBaby.com's front page, and received a glowing review after earning top
spots on their Editor's Picks lists in the Funk and Jazz Fusion genres. Their arrival to the iTunes music store
was marked by an in-store appearance at the Apple Store in January 2007.

Their second album, 4, is a compilation of energetic live recordings of old and new Pocket Change material.
Recorded on six seperate dates at The Triple Door Musicquarium and Kates Pub, 4 features stripped down
arrangements of P-Change tunes played by different quartets from the seven-piece line-up. To celebrate the
December 07 release, Pocket Change will perform on the Triple Door Mainstage with special guests
including Maktubs Thaddeus Turner, Swampdwellers Marc Fendel, Industrial Revelations Evan
Flory-Barnes, members of the Seahawks drumline Blue Thunder, and Seattle area jazz monster Jay Thomas.

The members of P-Change are all intensely focused jazz, funk, and fusion musicians who thrive on bringing
their formal musical training and creative talent to the dance floor. Drummer Tarik Abouzied and bassist Jake
Amster have developed the kind of pocket that funk and jazz audiences have come to know and love. Along
with guitarist Cameron Peace and keyboardist Tim Wright, they provide the support and energy that
trumpeter Scott Morning, alto saxophonist Art Brown, and tenor saxophonist Andrew Swanson need behind
virtuosic solos and fiery horn lines.

Pocket Change has performed at venues, fairs, and festivals all over the Seattle area such as Qwest Field, The
Tractor Tavern, Nectar Lounge, The U-District Street Fair, The Fremont Fair, and The Bite
of Seattle. They have opened for national act The Breakfast (aka The Psychadelic Breakfast)
and have shared the stage with local groups Altered States of Funk, Swampdweller, and as
back-up band for Geo Logic of The Blue Scholars. Members of P-Change have shared the stage
with Allen Vizzuti, Terri Lynn Carrington, Charlie Hunter, Ingrid Jensen, Scott Wendholt, Bobby Previte,
Terell Stafford, Skerik, Marco Benevento, and Wynton Marsalis.
