Bio

A touch of the Celtic faeri with a dash of soul diva, add a generous sprinkling of passionate yet playful troubadour, and you might come close to describing the unique sound and style of Latiesha – vocalist, lyricist and enchantingly beautiful figurehead of Perth’s most intriguing new band, ‘Poetry Lounge’.

Hailing from the city that has, in recent times, bought the world the likes of ‘Eskimo Joe’, ‘Little Birdy’ and ‘The John Butler Trio’, Poetry Lounge have been compared stylistically to various international artists such as ‘The Cranberries’, ‘Evanescence’ and ‘Sarah McLachlan’, as well as Australia’s own ‘George’, in an effort to describe their strongly melodic and emotively based, rock, pop and folk sensibilities.

Such a diversity of references reflects the varied and eclectic nature of the members’ backgrounds, musical influences and personalities and is especially apparent through listening to their music in its recorded form.

Combining Latiesha’s magical presence with the considerable song-writing skills of guitarist/ pianist, Paul Kew, and the extensive musical production and arrangement experience of guitarist/ multi-instrumentalist, Tony Annese, Poetry Lounge have self financed and produced their debut 6 track EP ‘Leap from Heights’ using exclusively West Australian musical talent and recording/ mastering facilities.

This collaboration has resulted in an extremely well crafted, sophisticated and highly commercial work, that defies all current pop conventions. Complimentary critics range in age, from teens to their parents and in taste, from those on the edges to the mainstream.

Beginning life as an acoustic singer/ songwriter duo, occasionally appearing at various ‘open mic’ nights (under the name of ‘Latiesha’) in early 2006, the musical and personal friendship that is Poetry Lounge has steadily evolved into a class act that can satisfy the need for the intimate as well as the elaborate.

Poetry Lounge (a name suggested by a fan who felt that the creative and artistic atmosphere of a “poet’s lounge” was an apt metaphor to describe the nature of the band’s honest and heartfelt musical presentations) perform regularly within the local independent music scene and are fast becoming one of the most talked about bands in Perth.
