"4 N's - AUG. 20th 2008"

Structured like a solid Boot Camp Clik project, this disc has the rappers take turns dropping combinations of tight verses and hooks over 16 lush, rugged and chilly productions care of Boi1da, Sproxx, Pikihed, Tone Mason and others. The cinematically vicious atmosphere proves time in the trenches have taught them how to organize like a musical militia training beneath Regent Park.
As they state their business with mad swagger, T.O. 2 O.T.’s violin cascade thump ropes you into the creeping hometown chantdown. And, sure, it feels wrong to enjoy Pimp Shit, but it’s hypnotically catchy. Also, delivering empowering ghetto wisdom like “Success is the new murder” separates them from insightless studio gangsters. I avoid cross-border comparisons, but in the tradition of ghetto reporter audio documents, this is the closest thing Canada has ever produced to classics like CNN’s The War Report or Mobb Deep’s Hell On Earth.

"3 STARS - AUG. 20th 2008"

That it’s taken local favourites Point Blank almost 20 years — the six MCs plus producer have been making music together since they were kids — to get a full-length album out is no indictment. It’s a struggle for a hip-hop act to get heard in this country, and along the way the Regent Park crew were busy starting their own independent record label and their own studio. This debut rewards fans’ patience. Singles such as “Born and Raised in the Ghetto” and “God Only Knows” offer a grimy counterpoint to the backpack stuff that usually finds traction in this country. And while the production — heavy on soul samples, horn stings and synthesized strings — rarely breaks new ground, some of the rapping is exceptional. - EYE WEEKLY - By Jordan Timm

"KEEPING THE BEAT - POINT BLANK #5"

It's taken a mere 19 years for this sizeable Regent Park hip-hop crew to reach the charts. Trouble, Imperial, Stump, Kidd, Pikihed, PRD and Jackal clearly have the ear of the streets and more, as they're getting love from FLOW radio and MuchMusic of late, and threw a big CD release party at Reign downtown, all of which helps first-week sales. It's a nice change for guys who've been flirting with stardom and the penitentiary at the same time. - TORONTO STAR - AUG. 31st 2008

Bio

As one of Canada’s most recognized groups in hip-hop, Point Blank continues to make long strides in the music industry. Comprised of 6 emcess and 1 in house producer – Imperial, Trouble, Stump, Kidd, RPD, Jackal and Pikihed - their music is a reflection of life experiences growing up in impoverished communities and the infamous government housing project Regent Park. Point Blank has performed alongside hip-hop legends such as Rakim, KRS-1, Next, Mobb Deep and Lil’ Flip to name a few, and with 4 nationally acclaimed music videos under their belts, one of which (“Born and Raised in the Ghetto”) nominated for a Much Music Video Award after 8 weeks at number 1 on the Rap City charts, it's no wonder that their debut self-titled album has proved to be a success, maintaining a position on both the indie and rap charts since its August 19th release. Recently the group has appeared on Much Music's Much-On-Demand to discuss their new release, as well as performed on MTV Live and were featured on MTV News, and on election day they were interviewed on Much Music's "Be Loud On Oct. 14th" special. The album has received rave reviews in newspapers and magazines across the country and worldwide, and while they are busy touring the country, their next video single is expected to drop sometime before the Christmas season!
