Poisen ivy

Listening to Poisen Ivy is a gift - simple and to the point. Her voice is powerful, soft, crisp and sultry. She can create the sound needed to tell her story, as she sees it and feels it in her heart and soul.

Her style of music is contemporary pop meets hip hop – with a twist. Her music stylings take on a lot of influences from her colorful background of Arubian/Caribbean and Sierra Leonean descent. The fusion of soul, funk, hip hop takes the audience on a musical journey – a magical ride. It’s truly an interactive experience when you listen to Poisen Ivy. Case in point - The song, “Necesito Amor”, highlights her vocal skills. She utilizes her soft and sultry voice into a dynamic crescendo showing us the true strength of her abilities. Wow. You truly need to hear her. I will say that the sound is a mixture between Beyonce’ and En Vogue when you hear the background harmonies. Yes indeed, this is the real thing.

Poisen Ivy has been performing from a young age of 9 – and now at the age of 28, she’s next to take the throne of the hip hop world. It has been a long journey with bumps on the road. But she has vowed to never give up and to always hold on to her dream.

The name “Poisen Ivy” derives from the word poised, which stands for prepared, collected, dignified, self confident, absolutely ready and in full control of your faculties. All of the above is an accurate description of who she is.

Many have inspired her through her career. It started with the soundtrack of “A Star is Born” to current day artists like, Destiny’s Child, Beyonce’, Mariah Carey, Tupac, etc. Truly her most influential artist is Alicia Keys. Poisen Ivy has hopes that one day Alicia will produce a CD with her.

To Poisen Ivy’s own credit, she has the talent and the know-how to let the world know that she is here and a force to be reckoned with. She has graced the big stage when she was 12 years old, performing in Aruba’s top musical festival, the Calypso & Roadmarch contest, back in 1995. She performed in Aruba’s 50th carnival celebration in 2004, performed in Holland in 2007 and many more highlighted performances in South Africa and the UK. In the summer of 2008, she attended Berklee College of Music for a 5-week performance program. She was rewarded a grant/scholarship for this from the very prestigious and most successful Dutch theatre production company “Joop van den Ende”. Taking part in the program at Berklee gave her reassurance that this is really what she wants to do – make music!

She’s now 28 years old and living in Aruba. One of her goals is to spread some music here in America.

Her new single, “Black Queen”, is off of her new EP, “A Star Is Born”. “Black Queen” is a heartfelt powerful song that she wrote to her mother. “It’s about strength and encouragement to all women”. This single is a tribute to her mother, saying thank you for everything she’s done to support her. The song is a very powerful song and yes, we all can relate to it. Again, this song is another example of the skill of level changes within the same song. Great display of talent.

Poisen Ivy is still working on the digital and physical release of her EP.
