"From a Clear Channel jock"

"Poker Face is one of the few unsigned bands that I know that has what it takes to accomplish anything they want to in this big, bad world...and I know HUNDREDS of unsigned bands. They have the constitution (no pun intended), the songs, the musicianship, and the drive...without the egos. Plus, they have the studio savvy to produce some of the best-sounding CDs I've ever heard, signed or unsigned. If you back these guys, you will NOT be disappointed with the experience, personally or professionally." - Blake Dannen - 95.1 WZZO

"Top 25 song list of all time"

The band was listed along with Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, Rush and others in the official Libertarian Party's national newspaper.

Song: Rather Die Than Be Your Slave
Artist: Poker Face
Album: Sex, Lies and Politiks (PokerDudes, 2000)

This Allentown (PA) band is not to be believed! With a sound that is a cross between Creed, Alice in Chains, and Pink Floyd, they grab you immediately with their music. The band's intense sound hammers the freedom message home in song after song. The band never lets you forget their message. - Libertarian Party national publication

"Comprehensive list of qualities ;-)"

PokerFace has a unique sound. The band has artistic maturity, experience, and diversity. Oh, and talent. And personality. And credibility. Individually and together, these guys can rock the house with foot stomping anthems or silence the crowd with a ballad. They can get you up and moving; they've got music hall sound and depth - with flair and style - or they can take you on a mind journey of word music, melody and poetry, with feeling. - Umbrellazine (Boston and Philly arts)

"Truly a Powerful Band"

POKERFACE !! I am so impressed I can feel the hair standing up on my arms. A blend of smooth, kick ass, Rock-n-Roll with lyrics of liberty. Exellent in every facet. When I recieved the cd "Made In America" from Pokerface I was already impressed from the cover art and insert. It is covered with information concerning our freedom, and how/why we are in grave danger of losing it. I then talked to frontman Paul Topete, and was impressed with his attitude and his beliefs. Then I put the cd in the player while I was playing some pool and ended up listening to it almost all night long. (and I wont listen to something over and over again like that unless every song is really good) The lyrics and vocals combined with background harmonies hit you right where it counts: YOUR HEART!! Kicking guitar (impressively fly solos too), punchy bass, and tight knit drums add a crunchy, yet smooth, power to it. It is really, really, good folks. This is truly a politically and musically POWERFUL BAND. "Made in America" is a must have! There are also about three hours of interactive stuff on the cd to check out on computer to enlighten the unaware. I'm hoping they will send me some of their older stuff for review too. Im looking to possibly selling "Made in America" right here from PowerfulBands.com. But until then, you can go to the PokerFace website and grab it.
These guys are TRUE PATRIOTS and I salute them with my heart,
my soul, and my guitar!!
I rate them a 6 (1-5 scale)!!!!

"Politically, Musically Stunning"

Where to begin? After listening to the latest album by the Allentown, Pa.-based rock band Poker Face, I was a bit stunned and encouraged by what I heard.

Not just because it is so good musically, but because of the political and spiritual messages offered on "Made in America" are unlike anything going on in the rock world today. This is their follow-up to 2000's hard-hitting "Sex, Lies and Politiks" which featured the hit "Illuminati."

These are songs addressing faith and freedom while also exposing political corruption and the increasing loss of our civil liberties.

I have to say that I liked Poker Face from the first guitar chord and the first snap of a snare.

"Kontrol," the powerful opening track, is about fighting a system that ultimately wants to enslave the people.

"Satellites in the sky / broadcasting lies to billions of people / cameras on the streets, tracking who we meet / you call this liberty?"

Poker Face has managed to offer the listening masses a record chock full of straightforward rock that reminded me a little bit of the more melodic material by 90s-era grunge band Alice in Chains.

In fact, lead singer Paul Topete reminded me vocally a little bit of late Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley.

This libertarian four piece - Topete, Dennis Beidler, Brett Griffiths and Rich Valentin - have been performing for over a decade and are committed to freedom and our Constitutional form of government.

But what's more amazing about this band are the political and spiritual beliefs they incorporate in their music. They address issues that few bands (or corporate media outlets) are willing to address. It's no wonder that they have gained the nickname "America's House Band."

On the anthemic "Prayer for America" the band not only showcases their love for their country but also shows their knack for recording songs that touch the heart while remaining determined and strong. I should also note that the production value on this album is quite good.

The band knows that there are people who don't want freedom and are eager to turn our Republic into a police state. Exposing the dehumanizing games of the controllers is an issue that Poker Face takes seriously. This is what makes them unique in the world of rock and metal.

The band not only included the lyrics to all their songs but they also cram tons of information - pro-freedom Web sites, art, personal thoughts and other stuff - in the liner notes. The disc also includes interesting interactive material which is a must-see.

"Poker Face - Sex, Lies & Politiks"

The CD rocks and sounds great - totally excellent - awesome. I wasn't sure what to expect. Totally top-notch all around. Every facet. I guess the 2 things that are the most surprising are the super high quality of the ECD ... and the amazing quality of the sound. The sound is amazing. You must have spent hundreds and hundreds - if not thousands - of hours in the studio. The tones are really rich and smooth, the arrangements are complicated and full without seeming cluttered - reminded me a little of some Zep in that respect - and, one of those things that I haven't even much noticed in CD's recently, the stereo mix really adds a noticable level of quality appreciation to the music - it's been a long time since I've heard a CD that I can say the stereo separation adds anything to the music - again Zep maybe. The songs rock, but I was familiar with many of the songs from the Gull show last July - maybe it's similar to how the JCS Salmonella CD was so much richer than the Fowl CD's and live. Totally awesome - 5 out of 5. (5-00 jl)

Bio

Poker Face is a nationally recognized band with 4 full length CD's that are constantly referred to as being "better than the majors." With a sound that is described as a mix of Alice and Chains with southern rock influences, the band has toured extensively through the eastern third of the country. From the UP of Michigan, to Cincinnati, Louisville, Atlanta, DC, NYC, Philadelphia and back up through New England, this band has been winning fans over with their unique blend of music and political activism. Their music is currently being used on several political and Christian/political radio shows and has received rave reviews from dozens of publications world wide.

Their lush 4 part harmonies have been appreciated at events such as the 2004 Libertarian National Convention while being straight up rocking enough to handle opening for Jackyl, Quiet Riot, Molly Hatchet, Warren Zevon, Budgie, Jimmy Vaughn, Mark Farner and an ever growing list of other well known bands.

"Made In America," the band's 4th full length CD was mastered by Jonathan David Brown (Amy Grant, Petra) and included lyrical collaboration with V B Wolfe (I Want to Know what Love is - Foreigner; I Can't Fight this Feeling - REO Speedwagon). In 2004, the album just missed breaking the CMJ Top 50 by a handful of spins. While the band is still heavy on promoting their latest release, Poker Face is already working on a fifth disc entitled, "Peace or War," at the behest of hungry devoted fans.
