Bio
Ben Bullock had been writing, singing, and playing solo acoustic for six years before he met the other two members of Poor Boy's Reason. "I never really imagined myself making the move to electric" said Bullock. But a chance meeting with drummer James Whelan inspired him to make the switch which was the stepping stone for what now promises to stand against the played out norm in the Boston rock scene.
Bullock had many songs already written and Whelan's drums filled out the sound he was looking for. With influences ranging from Stone Temple Pilots to Elliot Smith to the Stones, Poor Boy's Reason exhibits a style that can be aggressive and melodic all within the same song. Whelan's relentless and pounding drumming combined with Bullock's steady vocals and intense guitar play was a cause for notice. After going through a number of bassists, Steve Roberts stepped in to complete the rhythm section, and ultimately, the band.
What really stands out about the group is their lack of interest in the status quo of rock music. By concentrating on their own style and not on the accepted sound and image, the band is taking a refreshing step in the right direction. Poor Boy's Reason is three committed musicians who are poised to make some noise in the Boston music scene, doing their best to remember what playing rock used to be about.
