Biography

(LINKS AT THE BOTTOM!)

Poor Edward is the duo consisting of Martin and Kristian Tungland Rinde; two brothers from Stavanger, Norway. Having both dabbled in music separately since childhood, it was not until they grew older that they decided to join forces and write music together.

Writing and performing their own songs, Poor Edward can be classified as a mixture of pop and rock with notable folk/americana tendencies. Their trademark is a guitar and vocals sound, largely focused on lyrics and harmony. The music is melodious, sometimes melancholy, often understated and always authentic.

The duo themselves claim without irony or pretence to be concerned with the little things in life. From an early age they learned that 'simple' does not mean plain, or even easy. When asked about their inspiration, the duo draws influence from artists such as The Everly Brothers via The Jayhawks to Beck and Calexico.

Since 2006, Poor Edward has completed several tours around Norway, both as an acoustic duo and with their backing band. The band has gained a solid and varied live experience through the years, having played over a hundred shows at all kinds of venues throughout Norway, including clubs, music halls and festivals.
Poor Edward has also done several supporting gigs for well established artists like Lissie (US), Beach House (US) and norwegian artists like CC Cowboys and Ida Jenshus.

The Poor Edward discography includes several releases:

Summerrain (EP 2008)
Soldiers & Sundays (EP 2009)
Look To The Sky (7'' vinyl single 2011)
Time Is Gonna Change You (Album 2011)
Keeping Track (single 2012)
Brooklyn (EP 2013)

In between touring and recording, Poor Edward also spends a substantial amount of time writing songs. As a part of Songwriters Circle they have worked with and alongside nternationally accomplished songwriters like Jeff Cohen, James Slater, Hanne Sorvaag, Michelle Leonard, Boots Ottestad and Rod Davies among others, and participated in songwriting camps in New York,
including a live performance at The Bitter End on Manhattan.

After working closely together with producer Ashley Stubbert throughout 2010 and 2011 they released their first full length album, 'Time Is Gonna Change You', in november 2011.
The album was well received by music press and critics, leading to a broader span of attention. Several songs from the album also received considerable airplay on norwegian national radio. The release was followed by an extensive tour in January and February 2012.

Summer of 2012 Poor Edward returned to New York to work and record. At Braund Sound studio in Brooklyn a new EP was produced and it was released in April 2013.

Poor Edward is currently writing and recording for their new album, expected to hit the fan some time early 2015.

New single, "My Mind" out spring of 2014!

The duo explores the unique dynamics that exist between brothers, for better or worse. Their work live and recorded bears witness to mature reflection and heartfelt emotion of their relationships.
Poor Edward conveys a sense of life's extremes; of grief, happiness and hope. Spiced with a touch of dry humour, Poor Edward's music is personal and appealing, yet not invading. Their songs carry the sound of life lived, true stories told earnestly without affectation.

Lyrics

Keep From Falling

Written By: Martin Rinde / Tobias Stenkjaer

Time is gonna change you, and I know for sure it will
Though you're tryin' hard to fight it, it's gonna happen to you still

Don't be afraid to let it in, don't be afraid to shed your skin
It's part of being who you are

Cause you can't keep from falling, even if you're standing still
You're gonna be in someones way, and someone's gonna hurt you someday

Your heart will end up broken, a thousand times or more
You'll see lovers turn into strangers, and people you adored

But don't you dare to run and hide, it wont be easier in time
It's part of being who you are

Cause you can't keep from falling, even if you're standing still
You're gonna be in someones way, and someone's gonna hurt you someday

You'll be bruised, betrayed and battered, you'll be washed up on the shore
When you find that your defences, they don't work like before

But dont let go of your beliefs, dont let go of all your dreams
It's part of being who you are

Cause you can't keep from falling, even if you're standing still
You're gonna be in someones way, and someone's gonna love you someday

The Storm

Written By: Kristian Rinde / Martin Rinde

I know that you're scared, but you don't have to be
'Cause mother tonight you're gonna be free

The storm will pass, this winter will not last

I've told you before and I'll tell you again
You will see the sun through thunder and rain

The storm will pass, this winter will not last

You've fallen this time, it's a broken heart, but a sane mind.
You're strong, you'll rise, but it's hard
to let go

These are my words to you.
You're strong like the winds, we all know it but you.

The storm will pass, this winter will not last

You've fallen this time, it's a broken heart, but a sane mind.
You're strong, you'll rise, but it's hard
to let go

World Upon My Shoulders

Written By: Michelle Leonard / Martin Rinde

when you're weak you become the strongest
cause you're living on borrowed time
you know life revolves around circles
these circles in our minds

Come pick me up and tell me that I'm dreaming
and that you'll be here by my side
you know time is there to be beaten
or else we're beaten up by time

i'm carrying our world upon my shoulders
and the weight is too much to take
and if it wasnt for the love that bombs us
everything would collapse today

When you're hurt, you know the feeling
all you can do is try
to protect what you've been given
with tears in your eyes

Come pick me up and tell me that I'm dreaming
that you will be here by my side
you know love just needs protection
love is all we need to survive

i'm carrying our world upon my shoulders
and the weight is too much to take
and if it wasn't for the love that bombs us
everything would collapse today

No one wants to be forgotten
No one wants to fall or drown
I'm the one who took everything for granted
But you can count on me now
I'm watching the leaves falling
While life is draining out the sound
You will never be forgotten
You're with me then and now

i'm carrying our world upon my shoulders
and the weight is too much to take
so if it wasn't for the love that bombs us
everything would collapse today
and if it wasn't for the hope that guides us
everything would collapse today

Not Better To Go Suddenly

Written By: Martin Rinde / Kristian Rinde

take off your grieves,
and leave them with me
i'll be the keeper of all of the things you have said,
and you used to be

it can't be easy to fade away
can't be better to go suddenly
the lord will decide what's true
make us all understand what we do

he is my shepherd,
and he watches over me
the man upstairs will follow us through
he will shine his spirit on you

father, he'll let you know
when it's safe for you to go
you struggle so hard but you know in the end
that the lord will guide you the way

it can't be easy to fade away
can't be better to go suddenly
the lord will decide what's true
make us all understand what we do

i'll tell you this my friends
you can never know your fate
but there's one thing i know, and i've seen it for sure
you're surrounded by what you create

it can't be easy to fade away
can't be better to go suddenly
the lord will decide what's true
make us all understand what we do
help us all understand what we do

You Are What You Eat

Written By: Martin Rinde / Kristian Rinde

go fill me up with passion
go fill me up with rage
don't think any emotion
could fill this empty space

so what do you infuse your mind with
what's injected into your soul
you should be careful what you wish for
don't give up control

everything you hope for
and everything you'll be
you think you know it all so well
you know it all so well

but you are what you eat
you get hurt from deceit
you become what you do
it hurts to stay true
you are what you think
what you eat, what you drink
there are things that you do
there are things that are true

you've been given a position
been awarded with a mark
you didn't have a clue, did you
they kept you in the dark

so keep your eyes wide open
filter out what isn't real
make sure that you stay conscious
dont live your life asleep

cause you are what you eat
you get hurt from deceit
you become what you do
it hurts to stay true
you are what you think
what you eat, what you drink
there are things that you do
there are things that are true
